How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have bought a heifer. I always buy milk from my neighbors daily and this is so costly. I depend on small scale farming and the casual jobs in the village. The amount of money that I get through this is so small. I had no savings to buy a dairy cow. I had always wished to, when I received the second transfer I found it Worth to invest on this amazing dairy project. When my heifer reproduce I will no longer buy milk, my children will get enough milk to drink. I will also sell the surplus milk to earn an income to meet other basic household needs. The amount that I could have used to buy milk I will save to pay school fees for my children. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has given us hope to work and achieve much.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better houses. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of the money I received from GiveDirectly on purchasing Food and clothes for my children. I also bought pipes and connected clean tap water ,currently I no longer walk for that long distance like before to get the water. The rest of the money I bought a heifer, This will enable me to cut the daily cost of buying milk. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has changed my living standard.

I remember very well it was around 10 AM when I saw the notification from my mobile phone. Without wastng time, I decided to check its content and realize it was an Mpesa message from GiveDirectly. Wow i had finally received my first transfer as promised earlier. I was over-excited for I knew I would finally achieve what i had desired to own.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Currently, I have started a business on supplying milk to the nearby trading centers. I am so glad the business is now doing so well that, I am now in a position to settle my bills in good time, including school fees. I no longer strain like before. In addition to that, with the remaining few liters are for my family's consumption, my children are now healthier and glowing. Also, there is plenty of manure from the cow dung which I am applying to my farm and I am now saving the money that I have been using in buying the fertilizer. Therefore having the dairy cow makes the biggest difference in my daily life.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my first transfer on buying a dairy cow KES 35000. This is has been my long time dream but I could not achieve it since it was very expensive. I later paid school fees for my children who are in primary school and I am now glad they are studies peacefully without any disturbances. To add to that I also bought wire mesh, timber and iron sheets to construct a special house for the livestock. I also bought some foodstuffs for my family and other household items.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will mark a road map to financial stability. My husband is a security guard in the city earning a gross salary of Ksh 12,000. Owing to this, we have been struggling to make ends meet and thus I work as a salon in the nearby town. Our ambition is to acquire a dairy cow of approximately Ksh 45,000 and we are projecting to milk 10 liters a day. Out of this, we will sell surplus milk at Ksh 50 and use 2 liters domestically. This will greatly relieve us of the hustle we are going through.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening. This because I spend the whole day working in the salon; from morning to evening. Going home with some cash to buy food for my family brings a sigh of fulfillment as a parent.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial inadequacy has been the biggest hardship we have faced in life. I have two school-going children and both are at the Primary level. Owing to the nature of our work, we have been unable to take them to a better school because of our meager income. I work in a salon and my husband is a security guard. Having an alternative source of income will be a great boost to my household.
