How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life has tremendously improved in that, I live a healthy life. Previously, I used to worry a lot over how to meet my family needs like paying children's fees which led to ulcers. But with these transfers, I paid off the loan that made me regained ownership of my acre of land. Before, I had a small piece of land to cultivate which subsequently affected the amount of food I harvested hence food shortage in my family. In addition, we boosted the family business which is generating more profits as opposed to the past when the stock was small. The profits realized enable me to afford a balanced diet and pay school fees for my children.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has done well by helping me greatly with the unconditional cash transfers. There is nothing bad that it has done.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used my second transfer for boosting the family livestock business.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
There's improved standards of living in my daily life in a sense that I now feed on a well balanced diet, I managed to stock some posho and beans in conjunction with other diets. I'm glad that I have enough piece of land to farm on since I was able to payoff the debt I acquired using that land. Finally my children are in school because I cleared their school fees and I have also invested in buying a cow.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I saw the message at around 10 pm, my heart was filled with joy and I ululated so much because I had endless happiness. I never believed that I could also have hands on this kind of money because from the time I was born I have never witnessed any Organization that sends unconditional grants.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
We had earlier used our land as collateral security for some cash which was used for acquiring my dowry because my parents wanted bride price. When we got this money, we decided to offset the debt and reclaim our land. I also used part of this transfer to pay school fees for the children. The remaining money I spent it on acquiring a cow which will basically be kept for reproduction.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will invest in educating my children. My children will study and probably get jobs in future where they may be paid salaries or wages. They will in turn keep on helping me and their families by providing basic needs like better housing , food and treatment thus improving our living standards.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Normally afternoon is my better part of the day. I share with my children about what they learnt from school and how well their can improve on their perfomance. This energizes me to look for thier fees.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face is lack of sufficient food to feed my family members. I donot have enough land for farming , so each season I rent a small portion of land to cultivate, hence I harvest little or no crop produce to sustain my family's needs.
