I have new goals that I would wish to accomplish. I plan to build a store for storing maize, livestock feeds, and farm tools. I also plan to construct a chicken house. I do not have the money to do the above at the moment but I am going to find a way. I am in a self-help group where we each usually contribute KES 200 per month. I plan to use the money that I will receive when it is my turn to buy some materials such as iron sheets for constructing the chicken house. I am casually employed at a school as a librarian where I am paid KES 7000 per month. I plan to spare part of my salary for the developments. I also plan to sell some of the chickens to raise the money needed. I wish to have a store because my houses are small in size and hence the space is not usually enough to store things such as maize and the livestock feeds. I also wish to construct the chicken house because my chickens do not have a place to stay. They usually sleep in the kitchen. In the morning when we wake up, they are forced to go out and this is not safe for them since they are exposed to the risk of being eaten by stray dogs or the bird preys. So with the store and chicken house, I will have somewhere to keep some of my things and the chickens will have a nice place that is safe for them to stay.

GiveDirectly did well because they uplifted the lives of many in the community. I was able to complete building the main house which I had left pending due to lack of money. I was also able to buy the solar panel and the lamps and hence my children now have a good source of lighting while studying. The people in the community were able to make many developments. Most of them used to live in only one house but with the transfers, they were able to build another house that is much more modern and iron-roofed. However, there is something that I feel they should do. There are some people like my sister who were left out during census and yet I feel like they deserved to be considered for the transfer. My sister was married before but after her husband died, she came back home with her six children. Her children depend on her yet she doesn't have a stable source of income. She does casual jobs to earn a living. I therefore recommend that people like her be helped separately although they live in the same house as their parents.

I spent most of my second transfer on paying school fees for my three children. I managed to clear school fees for the whole term and hence I no longer have to worry that the children are going to be sent home due to arrears. School fee is my biggest challenge because the money that I earn from my job as a librarian is little and not enough to pay school fees for them all. I usually get paid KES 7000 per month and it is from this amount where I have to buy food too. I am therefore so much grateful to GiveDirectly because they came to my rescue at the time when I needed money the most.

The moment I received the transfer I felt so happy. I remember vividly that it was around 9am, when I was doing my morning chores at home. I heard a ringtone message from my phone, since I was not expecting any message from anyone I was so curious. When I checked it I couldn't believe my eyes. It was message confirming that I have received money from GiveDirectly. I was overwhelmed with joy. I immediately inform my spouse and we really celebrated the good news. We knew we would be able to pay school fees for our children and clear the debts that I had. I went and withdrew the money the same day.

The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have paid school fees for my children. My children used to be sent home to collect the school fees and this was affecting their performance. They could stay home for a quite some time, Since I didn't had some money. They were so demoralized because the lessons were on going. I depend on small scale farming at home. Sometimes I sell the produce to pay school fees. I do a casual jobs in a nearby school and this enabled me to pay part of the school fees. Currently my children are so happy and they have not been sent home. The have time to study unlike before. This has made them to improve their performance since they attend all the lessons. I am so grateful because I have peace of mind to do other chores at home. I am no longer stressed up like before. I am able to save some money to pay for the next academic term.

I spent KES 15,500 to pay school fees for my children in various schools. They were able to study well without being sent home. I paid the debts that I had with my friend. I am so grateful because I feel revealed. I bought a solar panels for lighting up the house. This has enabled me to cut the daily cost of buying paraffin. The rest of the money I bought food for the family.
