How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different in that I no longer depend on my husband to buy food for my family. The income I get from the poultry project is enough to meet the family basic needs such as food. I also have enough food for my family since I used part of my transfers to buy two bugs of maize which will last us for some time.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Give Directly does well by educating the community about the cash transfer program and also giving unconditional cash to the recipients. In my opinion, I do not see anything that Give Directly does not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used my second transfer to build a new house.I used to live in a small house and could barely all my family members. I also paid school fees for my children in secondary school and college since my spouse had not cleared paying the school as he only depend on his monthly salary as a primary school teacher. I also used the remaining amount to start a poultry farming project. The income from the sale of eggs is enough to meet all my basic needs and I no longer depend on my husband as I used to do in the past.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my life is that now I have what I needed in my house as before I use to skip some meals due to lack of food. Now we have enough food for the family and we can afford three meals a day.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I got the money from GD, I felt so happy as I had never gotten free money. I am used to small amounts which I ussually gets after long struggle.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
The first transfer which GiveDirect sent to me, I spent part Kes 9000 to pay school fees for my son in secondary school. I also spent KES 6000 to pay for a school project for my daughter. I later spent KES 15000 to buy 20 chicken for rearing. The rest I spent on buying food and clothes. I have saved KES 20000 for future use.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have been having a problem in paying School fees and now getting this money mean I will be able to pay it without much problem. My husband is a teacher and he usually pay School fees using his salary which is hardly enough to meet the education expenses forcing us to sell our cows. We now remain with only one cow and we have been thinking on how we will meet the education expenses but we thank God for GiveDirectly for coming at the right time.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning since seeing a new day makes me happy and jovial.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in life is lack of money to build a better house. Even though we have been struggling in life to make ends meet, we have been unable to raise enough money to meet all our household expenses (including building another house) and School fees.
