What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer to get back my land that my son had given out in exchange for money that was used to treat me. I then bought some seedling that I have already planted, food to feed my family and paid labor that helped me to cultivate. I am saving up some of the money to cater for uncertainties.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has done well by bringing Joy into my life at this very old age. This is through giving me money that has helped me meet most of my financial needs. GiveDirectly on the other hand has done nothing bad.
How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life has greatly changed in that I am healthy. This is because my son was able to take me to get proper treatment in a better health facility. Before receiving this money, my health had deteriorated and any hopes of me surviving were very minimal. Secondly, I am really grateful that I was able to get back my land that had been given out in exchange for money that was used to treat me. Before receiving this money, I had given up on ever getting it back because it was worth Ugx 900000.

What did you spend your first transfer on?
when I received my first transfer, I paid off my debt of 900000 which I had used my land as collateral security. I did not have enough land to farm on so when I got this money, I decided to clear the debt in order to have full ownership of my land. I bought a cow at ugx 650000 for milk production that I will use for household consumption. I bought a mattress at ugx 110000 because I used to sleep on a papyrus mat. I spent the remaining 40000 for buying food stuff.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
When the phone rang, I checked it and I realized there was money. I became so happy to the extent that is started ululating because I knew this money will liberate my from miserable life I lived of doing casual labor.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
My daily life is different now in that, I no longer do casual labor because this money has helped me buy what I needed in my household like food, livestock and household items. My health has greatly improved because I haven't yet been diagnosed with ulcers compared to the previous days because I now have a peace of mind.
