What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
As an unskilled person, the only investment I can comfortably start is livestock keeping. This is because I already have experience with this project. Having this kind of investment will mean a better livelihood in the future since I will be able to cater to any emergency. To start with, I intend to spend $200 of my money to buy 1 indigenous dairy cow that will breed to earn me profit. On the other hand, I will also buy a piece of land at $500, to help me to have fertile land for farming because the one I am currently using is no longer productive. The remaining amount will help my son to join a technical school to get some skills. This is basically what receiving this money means to me.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Over the last 6 months, I am so grateful for the good health my family has had. This is because my household has been food secure due to the good harvest we produced on the farm this season. This has given me the peace of mind and I, therefore, consider it as my source of joy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Living in a polygamous family has contributed to the poor livelihood I am currently facing. This is because my husband's health status has pushed him to remain idle at home since he has hypertension. This is to mean we depend on subsistence farming as the main source of food. The most affected ones in the household are my children who have lacked decent education due to financial constraints. At the moment, I have no record of any child who has attended high school level. The young son who completed his primary level is also yet to join secondary school, something that gives me sleepless nights. Hence, the lack of a reliable source of income becomes my biggest challenge.
