How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different in that, I have constructed an iron roofed house that is left with fitting the windows. Once my house is complete, I will be relieved from the leaking grass thatched hut that I currently stay in.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly has done well to give money that I spent to construct an iron roofed house and seek proper medical care. GiveDirectly did nothing bad on my side.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer to purchase construction materials(a door, timber, nails, iron sheets), foodstuffs, a mattress and paid construction workers.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
I have got a big difference now, my health has improved after getting better medical attension with the transfer. I feel energised with less pain. If I had not received this money I would have died because I could not afford treatment.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received the money when I was very sick and admitted and I was not even aware of what was happening around me. When I recovered, my grand son told me that they met my expenses with the GiveDirectly transfers. I felt happy because it saved my life.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I used UGX 760,000 of my first transfer for meeting my medical expenses. I bought 3 trips of bricks, 1 trip of sand, food and a pair of bedsheets.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
When I receive this money, I will build a bigger ironsheets house. The one we are currently living in is too small to accommodate all of us. So, when I get this money am sure the congestion we are currently having in this household will come to an end and even the money we spend on buying thatching grass will be saved and that money can be used on something else like medical bills, buying food and other household items.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is usually in the afternoon because its the time I feel relieved of some body pain and its also the time I sit with other family members to share a meal.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced is illness. I have chest complications that have not cured for over 7 years and this has affected our household income causing financial constraints.
