How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I do not have any new goals apart from the one that I had earlier which was to own livestock more so cows and goats. These have been the well thoughtful valuable assets that I have dreamed to have since they have numerous benefits. In a few months to come, I will be getting plenty of liters of milk for my family's consumption.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well in all parts of the region. The money was equally sent to each household without any delays. Also, the officers made sure that they followed up on us after receiving each cash transfer just to confirm whether money was well collected without any hiccups. This showed how caring they were. Therefore I do not see any part that they failed us.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my second transfer on buying two dairy cows and two goats at a total of KES 35500. I am now happier and hopeful because currently the goats have reproduced and I will have many of them within a short period. Also in the few days to come my children will enjoy the white tea which I believe will boost their health. Initially, I used to buy milk from my friends which was relatively expensive. I later cleared school fees of KES 3000 for my four children who are still in primary schools. With the remaining amount of money, I bought foodstuffs for my children and other household items like furniture.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment when I received the money I felt so happy because this meant the beginning of my success. I had alot in plan but I could not achieve them since I did not have the means. When I received the money I knew that my dreams were finally put into practice .
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily is the happiness and pride I feel knowing that I will soon have a better house. It is always the joy and pride of every man to provide a good shelter for his family.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I bought goats for rearing with the first transferas away of investment for the future. They are easy to manage and at the same time they give birth twice a year. This makes them more beneficial.
Part of the money I spent I spent on building materials that I am planning to use to construct a house. The current house is in a bad condition and I do not find it safe to say in.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have ever been sleeping on roped bed with rugged sacks something that never gives me better sleep and I always wake up in the middle of the night due to the pains I feel on this kind of bed. I have imagined having a modern bed plus a mattress but this has never been possible due to the financial crisis. With the help from GiveDirectly's cash grant, I am confident that I will be able to own this since I intend to spend $150 to ensure this comes true and the remaining amount of the first transfer will help me to pay school fees for my children. On the other hand, I wish to start selling clothes in our nearby town in order to have a reliable source of income for my family and this will mean spending the entire second transfer to have this business done. This will have a better change of my livelihood and hence a transformed life.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My job of charcoal burning requires me to spend the better of my morning and afternoon hours at the bush and this means staying away from my children. It is only in the evening when I come back to meet them. At this time, I get relaxed since I laugh most and even share a meal with them something that gives me the feeling of happiness. Therefore, the evening becomes the happiest part of my day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My work as of now is charcoal burning, a job that is time-consuming and its income is very low. Considering the earnings from this job, I am unable to sustain the basic needs like food, better beddings and even paying school fees for my children something that has affected their performance. Therefore, the lack of a stable source of income becomes the biggest hardship that I have ever faced in my life.
