My new goal is to invest more in the livestock more so the goats. Once they increase in number, I will start a business of buying and selling them in our local market and earn a living. I am currently old and jobless therefore I feel this business is perfect for me.

In my opinion, GiveDirectly has been doing good not only in my village but in the entire region. The idea of sending the cash directly to my phone was the best because through that, there were no cases of bribery. Additionally, the cash was unconditional, choosing what to purchase according to my wants. I, therefore, do not see anything that needs to be changed.

I spent KES 20000 on clearing fees for my son who graduated from high school two years ago, unfortunately, he was denied his certificate due to the arrears. I am now thankful that he can seek jobs or go further studies. Also, I used KES 10000 to buy building materials such as cement and sand to finish constructing a pit latrine. Initially, I was using that of my friend which I felt was quite unhygienic. Apart from that, it was very far from the village we lived in. Additionally, I bought two goats at KES 7000 that I am currently keeping on my homestead. I opted for them because they can thrive so well in my region hence increasing in number within a short period. With the remaining amount of money, I bought food for my three family members which took us almost a month.

I was at home when my son rushed in to inform me that people were celebrating the receipt of their transfers from give directly. I asked him to check my phone and he confirmed that I also obtained mine. We both celebrated as this meant an ending to most of our financial problems. I will now get to pay his college fee arrears and have him allowed back to class.

I had a broken tap and I couldn't get water in my compound. So, we were forced to trek to get water. This has been very strenuous and costly since both my husband and I are old and unemployed. My last-born son also had school fee arrears of KES 15000 that we were unable to raise, which made him not allowed in class. But when I started receiving the transfers, our lives changed. I fixed my tap, I settled the debt my son had in school, renovated my house, I also bought 2 goats to start a livestock farming business, and finally, we were able to restock our house with some nourishments

I used to have access to water in my compound but when my tap broke, we were forced to trek to get water for our consumption. At my age, this has been quite grueling. So, when I got the funds, the first thing I did was fix it at KES 5000. I also built a new bathroom using KES 20000. On the other hand, my son, who is in college had fee arrears of KES 15000 that I needed to settle for him to be accepted back to class. That I did. I then bought two goats at KES 10000 to start a livestock farming business that will help in generating some income for both my husband and I since we are unemployed, often we would depend on my son who works as a part-time technician. The amount that remained I used to buy some food for us.
