How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than how it would have been had I not because received the transfers because I have been able to expand my dairy project. Due to this, the income from this project will be enough for me to use in meeting our daily basic needs.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my own opinion, GiveDirectly did well by giving us a financial support and I do not see anything that they did not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
When I received my second transfer, I spent a good amount to buy a dairy cow and its calf. I settled on this so that my income from dairy farming will increase. I spent the remaining amount to buy our daily household needs for my family. I bought some beddings in order to replace the old ones, food and decent clothes for everyone.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
It had always been my prayer to expand my dairy project but I had not been able to achieve this because of a lack of enough funds. This is because maize farming is no longer reliable in my region due to insufficient rainfall and fall armyworms investation. This always made us ran at a huge loss due to low returns. Dairy farming has proven to do well in my region as it requires less investment in terms of resources and labor.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I realized that GiveDirectly had sent me the promised money in the morning after waking up. This made my heart filled with happiness as I knew that it would enable us to uplift our living standards.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
When I received my first transfer, I bought a dairy cow worth KES 30000. I settled on this so that I would be able to increase my income from dairy farming. I will be supplying milk to the nearest cooling plant and use the money to pay for my children's education. I used the remaining amount to buy one sack of maize flour, 25 kilograms of rice and decent clothes for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will help me buy one extra dairy cow. This will provide us with milk for consumption.I am sometimes forced to buy milk which is expensive to me.I also have a plan of cementing the floor of my house. It is very dusty. The remaining cash will help me buy more sheep.Rearing sheep is a good venture since they multiply very fast.
What is the happiest part of your day?
After my children leave for school I feed the cattle then leave for my farm till noon.I have grown maize and beans in my farm.I spend my afternoons around my compound doing the house chores and cleanliness. The happiest part of my day is in the afternoon when I do not have much to do.I always relax around my home.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Being a farmer has been a big challenge in the recent times. This is due to the long dry spells and crop diseases which has led to reduced harvest. This has made me struggle in providing basic needs.I have five children to take care of and what I get from the farm is not enough. This is the biggest hardship in my life.
