I am a local businessman in my area, focusing on buying and selling goats and cows. Over time, I’ve realized this is a profitable business. During the drought season, the price of goats ranges from KES 2,500 to KES 3,000, but during the rainy and festive seasons, the price can rise to KES 10,000 or more, depending on the size of the goat.My plan is to invest KES 40,000 into purchasing goats to expand my business. Additionally, I aim to stock maize in my posho mill to produce and sell unga (flour), which I believe will generate good profits. I also plan to use the remaining money to buy a gate and further boost our small family business. These investments will not only strengthen my income streams but also support my family’s needs and future goals.

In April 2024, I took advantage of the drought and managed to buy goats at a lower price. I fed and cared for them until last month when I sold them at our local market. To my surprise, I made a profit of KES 20,000 from the sale of 8 goats. This unexpected profit brought immense joy to my family, as it was a significant boost to our income during these tough times. It reminded me of the power of small opportunities and how they can bring unexpected blessings.

We live in a harsh, rocky, and dry area where agriculture is no longer viable due to the hot and unforgiving climate. The biggest challenge we face is food insecurity, as we have to purchase all our food. This is an overwhelming burden because we lack a stable source of income. The harsh environment and lack of resources have made it difficult to break free from this cycle of hardship.
