How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is proud than how it would have been because through the transfers I have been able to achieve a lot. Before then, I used to shelter in a very small house which was also in a pathetic condition. Most of the time I used to seek shelter together with my family members. Also, some of my valuable properties were also damaged especially when it rains heavily. I had been lost hope in life and I never thought I would finally be this ambitious. I am now sleeping peacefully with no more stress life before. Also, I now have two acres of land, and this now the only asset that my children can depend on for their future dwelling. Besides, I will no longer have to lease other people's lands as I used to do. I am grateful to God because if to were, not for GiveDirectly to come into my life, I would not have achieved all these.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly had done sob well not only in my village but also to the entire village. First, the support was in form of money whereby every beneficiary was allowed to choose what to purchase according to the heat desires and needs. To add to that, the enrolment was fair and freely, no house was left out. Therefore I do not see any part GiveDirectly failed us.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my second transfer on buying some building materials such as building poles, iron sheets, nails, and threads. I purchased all these with an aim of constructing a new house because the initial one was a temporary hut and very small. I have seven members in my members and this house could not accommodate us all. Also, I bought three goats for a total of KES 9000. With the remaining amount, I bought enough food for the family for my family.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received the transfer notification early in the morning. I called for my helper who checked the message for me. When he read the messages, I realised that I had received my first transfer from GiveDirectly. I felt happy to receive the financial support.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Through the transfer, I bought two heifers which I am currently keeping in my homestead. I could not have managed to buy them at my own cost. I am happy to own these heifers because to me they are assets which will assist me in the near future. I am expecting them to reproduce and increase in number. I will be getting milk for my family's consumption and also sell the surplus and earn an income. To me owning these heifers is the biggest difference in my daily life.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent the transfer on buying two heifers at KES 30000. I decided to purchase them because even when GiveDirectly will be phasing out, I will have some assets to rely on. I know that they will reproduce and increase in number. I will also be getting milk for my family's consumption and sell the surplus and earn an income. Apart from this, I was also sleeping on the floor with old tattered mats and rags of used clothes before I was visited. Thus I bought a new bed and a mattress to sleep on comfortably. I am spending the remaining amount to buy some daily foodstuffs for my family and other household items.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My greatest desire has been to construct a respectable house for my family. The house that I am currently living in is small and it can not fully accommodate me and my items. My plan is to used $350 to construct a two-roomed and a sitting room. This will give the respect I lost. The remaining amount will assist me in purchase 10 goats that will act as my longterm investment.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Morning is the happiest part of my day. Waking up healthy with my family despite the challenge in life gives me joy and hope for a better future.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My biggest hardship is lack a reliable source of income. I am old and unable to work to earn income, This has forced me to depend on my children who have their families to cater.
