How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different in that I managed to settle the sugarcane lease and I am optimistic that I shall get higher profits once I harvest the cane come August. I was also stressed at the time I was being registered because I had a loan from Kenya Women Finance who were threatening to auction my roof and I used this transfer to settle that loan. I was able to set up a rack at the market and started mandazi business where I sell daily to our neighbors. I am now able to buy food for my family without asking cash from my husband.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The recipient did well in giving them direct cash transfer that has enabled them to make an independent decision on expenditure per household. Givedirectly should have broken the money into more spread of instalments because they are left still wanting more transfers.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer in settling the amount I owed the person that I leased from sugarcane farm that shall be due for cutting in August this year. This sugarcane once harvested will earn me more money. I built a kitchen which has provided additional space for my children to sleep and we are no longer bothered with limited space to cook and to sit with guests.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
I now have seats where my visitors will be eating anytime they visit me. I also have TV set that I can watch with my family whenever we are bored and need some company.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so happy when I received the cash from the organization. I knew that my dreams of getting the items I lacked before would eventually come to true.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I used the cash to buy a new set of sofa-set chairs, a TV set and a new steel door. I bought these items because I needed them the most in my life. I also used 20,000 to pay for a loan I had from the past.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means a big fortune to me and I shall be glad to be among the fortunate people to be enrolled in GD unconditional cash transfer programs. I shall spend my transfer on improving my farming activities.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is at noon when I meet with friends and we share much on what we can do to develop ourselves for a better future.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face is inability to provide basic needs such as food to my family members. My husband is a motorist although he does not own a motorcycle. He therefore, works for a friend for a little and unsatisfactory wages.
