How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
I expect my life to change in the next six months in that I shall have fixed an iron sheet roof and replace the grassed that one by buying building materials every month with the sent transfer. This is because at the moment the leaky grass-thatched roof of my house is in a deplorable condition which has made it risky for our habitation. How is your life currently different from how it was four months ago?
My life is currently different from how it was in that I am now peaceful and happy. Initially, I could not sleep well because I would think a lot. I could wake up most of the time and start thinking of my financial problems and how I would meet my daily needs. This were the tough days where I could do casual jobs or beg from my relatives during bad days. I am glad that since GiveDirectly came into my life, my relatives are now surprised because I do not beg anymore, they are even wondering how I rarely call them to ask for help. I am grateful that the transfers have transformed me in that I stop being a bother to people but plan well with my own money which I received monthly.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
I still don't have new goals at the moment. I am focused on paying school fees for my daughter. I do not want to fail her as a parent. I will do everything in my might to ensure she finishes school. I am afraid that if I start working on other goals I might interfere with her education since I am not stable financially.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
The biggest difference in my daily life in the last four months is that I was able to enrol my daughter for high school. I had saved my two monthly transfer and paid the required amount. I had given up on schooling my daughter past primary education because of my meagre earnings but GiveDirectly brought the hopes again. I had thought of all the casual jobs one can do to raise enough money but I could not see any. What came in my mind was to sell firewood which could not have been enough to admit her in school. Right now as we talk, she could have definitely been a school drop out. I feel proud that my daughter is going to school just like any other kid in the neighbourhood.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
In the next six months, I will have come up with a strategy to ensure my daughter finishes school. I am planning to invest some of the money to help me raise the fee and still be able to meet my daily needs. I will be a proud mother living a well-planned life. This will bring peace in my mind. Peace is what I have been praying for in my life more than anything else.
