How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is now very different than it was before since my children's education is secured .I was very worried because both of my children were in very strategic levels in school, whereby one is joining form 1 while the other one is suppose to finish form 4. This situation had turned our lives miserable since I had lost hope of my children continuing with their studies due to lack of school fees. Give directly transfers brought hope to my family more so my children's lives. I was able to pay fees for my children's school fees at ease that up to now its still like a dream to me. Nowadays I am very happy ,not resentful and always ready live my day very hopeful.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Give directly has really transformed the lives of different people since one is able to make own decisions concerning her transfers.The gesture of giving us unconditional money is what really impressed me since I know what is more pressing to me and can decide what to take care of first rather than being given food and its school fees that is troubling me. Currently I have not seen anything wrong with how the projects are done but I congratulate them for this noble venture,
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my second transfers on furniture's worth 10000 Ksh because the ones I had were worn out and not comfortable anymore, and paid school fees worth 20000 Ksh for my two secondary children whereby one was in form 4 and the other one joining form one. This will give them ample time to study rather than being sent home almost every month like before. I also had to buy food stuffs worth 10000 Ksh since my last harvest was not successful. Since all the needy issues had been taken care of I saved the rest of the transfers for the rainy days.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the first transfer I felt so happy. I remember it was around 9 am, I was doing my daily household chores as usual. I heard a ringtone message from my phone and I reluctantly check it thinking it was just common message, little did I know it was from GiveDirectly. When I open the message I was so happy because I noticed that I have received the transfer. I couldn't believe my eyes I have never received such amount of money. I immediately inform my family members and the all celebrated. We sat down and plan on how to spent the money. We are so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have saved enough money to pay school fees for my son who is yet to join form one this month. This has given me peace of mind to do my daily activities without any stress. I depend on small causal jobs in the village and sometimes to get this jobs is so hard. This was making me worry so much because I had no money for the school fees for my son. When I received the first transfer I felt so happy and releaved of my worries. My son also is so happy and full of hope to join secondary school and work hard. GiveDirectly has changed our living standard, it has enable us to educate our children and sure of a brighter future.

I spent part of the money I received from GiveDirectly on purchasing a heifer. This will enable me to cut the daily cost of buying milk when it reproduce. I also bought clothes and food for the family and I saved some amount for school fees for my son who is joining form one this month. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has enabled us to live a better life.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
The enrollment for GiveDirectly transfers came at a time when I was wondering how am going to raise school fees for my children.Besides my eldest who is already in high school,there is the second born who recently did his primary school national exams.He performed quite well and is likely to secure a place in one of the county schools. This means that he will not only need school fees but also all the other requirements needed in a boarding school.My spouse and I are both casual labourers at a nearby farm.We earn Ksh 300 per day each and with a family of six,it only means that we spend the entire amount on daily expenses especially food.We have not been able to save up any money and have even sold the livestock we had to cater for the eldest child's fees.Receiving this money means that our son will join high school without any strain as well as allow us to buy two dairy cows from whose produce we will be able to sustain them in school untill they complete.
What is the happiest part of your day?
After preparing breakfast for my family,I leave for the farm which is about 2 hours from home.This is my routine every other day.At the farm,most of the work is mainly weeding and planting.I work for about six hours non stop under the scorching sun in order to earn my daily wage and have something to bring home.This job is very tiresome and by the time I leave the farm I can barely walk home.With my last strenght,I struggle to get home,do some personal cleaning and take a well deserved rest.This is usually the happiest part of my day
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced is raising school fees for my child.Since he joined high school two years ago,we have gone through alot to sustain him.The Ksh 600 wages that my spouse and I earn is not sufficient to meet the other basic needs for our family of six and have a remainder for school fees.As a result,we have had to forego some needs like good clothing just so we can pay his fees.We even sold the only cow we had and hence the two young children have to miss out on important nutrients they would otherwise get from milk.
