After my initiation to adulthood in the year 2013, I was forced to stand up as a man and start up my own life.My disabled grandmother could not take care of me,hence I had to be a responsible adult to provide for her . Living in a decent house is like a nightmare to me,all along I have been living in abandoned houses belonging to relatives in the village,to be specific I have lived in 5 different houses some of which were damaged by rains and others fell due to termites invasion.My heartfelt need now is to put up my own 3 roomed decent house this will cost me KES 20000 .With this house my self worth in the society will also gain value.I also plan to spend KES 12000 on buying my own fishing net in order to continue earning daily income to support my family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Giving up is not part of my life.Despite having and seeing most of my agemates succeed in their lives I have not lost hope in working towards a better tomorrow.The unity, togetherness and support I get from my loving mother keeps me moving ahead.Last week for instance,my mother sent me 2 bunches of green bananas as an appreciation for the support I give to the family.I hawked the riped bananas across the town in the last 2 days and to my realization I sold all of them earning KES 1800 compared to the KES 300 I usually get from fishing after a lot of struggles.This really amazed me so much and ignited the urge to start up a banana vending job for my girlfriend.With this we will be able to share household responsibilities thus lesser burden and more incomes.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lack of money is the biggest challenge I am currently facing.For the past 4 years I have been working as a fisherman in lake Baringo,with my family of 3 the income I earn from this work is insufficient to pay for my daughter school fees as well as buy adequate household requirements.Although I have several business ideas it has been difficult for me to put them into practice because of limited finances . Operating on a hand to mouth basis is so discouraging and unpromising,most especially now when my family is growing and I have to shoulder the responsibility of taking care of my 4 siblings, my single mother and my disabled grandmother.I barely have savings from my monthly income of KES 15000, this stresses me a lot because time is moving ,I am getting old and I foresee a dull future for my family.
