What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I did use my most recent transfer to purchase zinc. I want to do an extension of my house. It actually has been embarrassing when ever a visitor or a friend come to visit me. There is no area comfortable outside for that person and I to sit and discuss. With the extension I am going to build, visitors will not just have to entered into the house straight from outside. They will now have to entered into the porch that which will be attached to the extension before entering the house. I thank God that this money came at this time. I am going to make a good use of this opportunity to better my household living conditions.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life since I started recieving payments from GiveDirectly is that, I feel relieved of the limited space in my house because the payments have helped me to add another room and a porch. Moreover, I am now able to solve other domestic problems in a shorter period of time as compare to few months ago when I did not have the money to solve those problems. For example we eat on time these days and buy medications on a regular basis.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was at home the very day my transfer was sent but did not know that I have been sent transfer. I got to know when I had gone to the next town where I heard residents of that town rejoicing for their payments. Later that day when I came back home I went for my phone from the charging booth and decided to check my mobile money account. After checking I saw the amount of forty thousand three hundred seventy five dollars been sent by GiveDirectly. With excitement, I began to tell everybody to check their account for their payments. I was really happy to have received such an amount of money free for the first time in my life.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Being a government teacher is not profitable especially for Liberia standard. We sometimes work for 2 to 3 months before receiving the previous months salary. This is a situation that have been going on for more than 4 years now. Raising money to establish another soure of income for my family and I that will supplement the teaching I am doing is the biggest challenge I am facing now.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Teaching grade school and the salary is always delayed has been a problem for me and my family. Through the money I am earning from teaching work, I am able to take care of other family members. My sister had a medical conditions which created serious financial burden for me. Spending the little that I am earning and and she was able to get proper medication and the problem was settled brought me so much joy and happiness.
What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am a teacher by profession and I have been teaching for about 34 years. Being a teacher doesn't earn you more. You work more and earn less. I am with Ministry of Education and was assigned in Rivercess County in 2016. Due to ineffectiveness on the part of government, I don't get my salary on time. Besides, where I am living in Garjai is not in good condition. I have been living in this structure since 2016. Even up to present, I am still residing in this house. The house is built in such a way that from outside you go straight in the room which I am not pleased with, but I can not do anything now due to financial constraints. If I qualifiy for GiveDirectly cash transfer program, I intend to use the money to expand my current living place and also to establish business as another source of income instead of just depending on teaching.
