What does receiving this money mean to you?
I will use some portion of my transfer to start business because I am very old now. My spouse is very old now and his health conditions is unstable, see his feet all swell up. Therefore, I will take him to the hospital because we don't know the underlying causes of his health problems. We will also pay attention to the children school. Because I didn't go to school, yet I know the importance of education. Sometimes I wonder why my parents refused to educate me. When I travel to Monrovia and see the girls and boys in offices and riding their own cars, I take the challenge to educate the children because I don't want them to end up like me in the bush.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The day my son send me a bag of 25KG in July, I was very happy and I felt that God has come down from heaven. I was happy because it is not easy for us when it comes to getting food for my grandchildren and us. Sometimes, you will not believe that we go to bed with hunger. When God help us to eat just dry cassava pieces is enough. Old as we are, the day we get food to eat is our joyous day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The main challenge we are faced with as household is finance. As I am speaking to you, I don't have slipper to wear now, could you imagine? The next challenge is food for my household sustainability. The only means of survival for me now is going to gather cassava from the old farm to make fufu (product from cassava) to sell. Occasionally, my other son in Monrovia send a bag of 25KG rice and that happens two times a year because he is not employed and is just sell used clothes in the street.
