My life is different because currently, I have this motorbike which generates money for the family. I also have a plan of starting a business which will also be generating more money for the family. The profits generated will go a long way in helping us meet some of the family's financial needs such as paying school fees for the kids.

I think that some of the things I have done so far, I would have never done to date if it were not for the cash transfers that I got from the organization. My husband had been employed by a neighbor to provide taxi services in my home town by using a motorcycle. He was daily paying a fixed amount of sh. 400 to the owner and taking home the little that remained. One of the motorcycle companies offered us a new motorcycle at KES 110,000 on credit which we were to pay a deposit of KES 20,000 and pay the rest at a daily instalment of KES 400. To me, this was possible and economical than paying the daily amount to another person, because I know that once the payment is completed, then I will gain full ownership of the motorcycle. To me, possessing the motorcycle though on credit is the biggest difference in my daily life because we will be earning a good income daily once the payment is complete.

I was woken up by a message notification at around 2 am. I kept on wondering of who could have sent me such a message at that odd hours. I curiously went through the message in my inbox and for sure I could not believe what I saw. I had previously thought that GiveDirectly would not honour the promise to send us money due to my previous experience with other organizations. My joy was beyond explanation on realizing that it was indeed true that I had received money from GiveDirectly.

I spent KES 20000 on the transfer I received from GiveDirectly to pay for a deposit payment for a new motorcycle. Before then my husband was working for a neighbor who had his motorcycle to provide taxi services. The income he was getting was little since he was expected to remit a fixed amount of KES 400 to the owner. When Abson motors offered to give us new motorcycles on credit, we took it as an opportunity to have our own. Though I will be paying the instalments daily, with time I will clear the remaining amount and gain full ownership of the motorcycle. This means I will be earning a good income unlike before. I also spent KES 10000 of the transfer to buy four goats. To me, these are my living assets. I am expecting them to reproduce, in which I will have something to depend on in case of future financial difficulties. I spent the remaining amount to cater for the households expenses as well as paying my children's school fees so that they can comfortably continue with school.
