How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Farming has been my passion for quite a long time now, though my wish would be to have a large scale where I can have varieties of crops that can attract more profit. The major challenge that I face at the moment is that I lack finances. If I happen to get funds in the future, farming would be my goal.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
From the onset, we were treated well during the training sessions. The community entry skills were top-notch because they gave us a clear understanding of how the organization is running. Throughout my interaction which the program, I never experienced things that needed to be corrected.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a single mother of three, currently depending on casual jobs to earn a livelihood. Upon receiving my second transfer, I used $310 in buying a dairy cow to reduce the cost of buying milk daily, where I used to buy 1 lire of milk daily at $0.5, which is expensive, bearing in mind my financial status. Secondly, I initiated a goat-rearing project for sustainability purposes where I used $200. Lastly, used the remaining amount on foodstuffs. Accomplishing all these was not easy before, due to financial constraints. I am grateful for the financial support that lifted my living standards amazingly.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Being a single mother of 3 I struggle so much to make ends meet for my children. I engage in all kinds of casual jobs such as digging, washing clothes and baby sitting in order to earn some amount .I have done this work for more than 5 years and from the little I get I saved some to secure a piece a land for my children to settle in. This 0.1 acre piece of land I live in is partially paid for, I owe the owner KES 20000 .Receiving this amount therefore means I will be able to settle the debt and also expand the size of land . Furthermore I will build a bigger house that will comfortably accommodate all of us.I have not been able to do so because of the needs that surpasses my wages .
What is the happiest part of your day?
The purchase of this 0.1-acre piece of land though not completely paid for in the past 6 months has brought me happiness. This make me happy because like many other person I also have a place to call a come .I am free from the quarrels and shouts I used to get from my brothers and this gives me joy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Am a single mother of three children. These children are young and need enough food for them to grow healthy. It is a challenging situation for me to provide for them because I do not have a readily available job. Many days I have had to beg from the people I work for to give me goods in advance so that I can work for them later. The unavailability of adequate food is a major challenge to me because the piece of land I own is too small and unproductive.
