How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is currently different in that, I now own one more cow for rearing. This means that my financial status has already risen. Very soon I will be selling milk in the local market and in turn, use the profits to take care of our family needs with ease. I am also glad that we use clean water as compared to before because I managed to purchase a water tank.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, I am glad that we were given the freedom to choose what we want to do with the money. This meant that people with diverse needs dealt with it in their own way as compared to demanding that people use the money in a particular way. Everything was done excellently!
What did you spend your second transfer on?
One of the desires that I had in my life was to own cattle. When I got the opportunity to get my transfer from GiveDirectly, it was one of the long term goals that I first accomplished. To say the truth, this is the best gift that I got from GiveDirectly through the transfer. Besides having a cow, I also managed to restock my business. I am glad that my clients nowadays get all the stuff that they want which has actually increased my income.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
When I received my first transfer, I resolved to inject some amount into a new business. I bought an adequate stock that will serve a large number of customers and build a shop within my compound along the road. I am happy that currently, my income has increased thus I can provide for my family and save some money for future financial needs. I am self-employed, through the money I received from GiveDirectly. To me, this is the biggest difference in my daily life. I believe the extra profits will help me improve my family living standards and meet emergencies in the family.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I realized that GiveDirectly had sent us the promised money in the morning after switching on my phone since I had switched it off the previous night. My heart was filled with happiness at that instant and I gave thanks to God. I knew that this money would uplift our living standards in different ways.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent part of my first transfer to buy a water tank with a capacity of 2300 liters. I settled on this so that I will be using it to harvest rainwater during the rainy season. I usually walk for a long distance looking for clean water for domestic use and it is always tiring and time-consuming. Also, I bought a heifer and I believe that it will be calving soon thus I will be getting an income through milk sales. I spent the remaining amount to start a business in my compound. I bought all the necessary stock required for the running of a shop business. I made this decision to help me increase my daily income as I utilize my time and energy there.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have always strived to help my husband in matters of providing family needs. The best way I do this is by having my own projects here at home while he is away at work.He is an army officer.I therefore have started dairy farming and I also own a shop. The money I will receive from Give directly will go a long way in boosting this two projects.I will buy one dairy cow to add to the two I have. This cow will cost me around Ksh 30,000(300 USD).The milk that I get from the cow will boost my source of income.I will also add stock to my shop. This will ensure I serve my village customers to their satisfaction by bringing items close to them.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I spend the morning hours and the better part of the afternoon looking after the cows and feeding them. When I am through with this I rest a little bit before sunset.I enjoy that time of the afternoon resting since I have less work to do and seeing what I have done by that time makes me proud.Dairy farming is my main source of income.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I have four children and satisfying the family's basic needs has been a struggle. The most challenging of all has been paying school fees for them. Two of my children are in secondary school and sometimes they are sent home due to school fees arrears. My husband is always away at work as an army officer. What he sends home to support us is not enough and that is why I am struggling to set up my own projects here at home.I believe that when my projects work out well here at home things will be better. For example when he deals with the school fees burden I can take care of the rest here at home.
