How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is now different from how it would have been becasue for the dairy cows that I acquired from the transfers I am now able to get milk for free. This is purely for my family consumption with is a supply to their daily meals making them healthier and glowing. Previously I have been buying to my neighbors which were relatively expensive and sometimes I could not afford. Also with the remaining liters, I am planning t sell to the nearby town center and earn a living. Also, the fact that I managed to complete my house makes the biggest change in my life. I am now sleeping under a decent permanent house without any stress like before.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well and satisfied every soul in my village. No one could be left out of the program provided you are among the residents and given agreed to be enrolled since it was voluntary. Secondly, the money was sent directly to our phones and chose how he or she would wish to spend according to the needs in her household
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent a larger portion of my second transfer on buying building materials such as the sevral bags of cement, bricks, and sand. I had to purchase all those to complete my house which I had initially started the process but I had to stop due to insufficient funds. It has always been my dream to own a permanent house to avoid the cost of renovating the houses every year. Also with the amount of money that had remained, I bought food for my family and would sustain us for a couple of days.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was from the from when my phone started vibrating loudly. I was a bit nervous and decided to check since it was notifying me of an incoming message. Upon checking, I realized that it was an Mpesa message from GiveDirectly. I had finally received the cash transfers that I had anxiously been waiting for. I was overwhelmed with joy and I could not wait to reach home and shared with them the good news.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The fact that I now own two dairy cows that I am keeping in my homestead has brought the biggest difference in my daily life. I am sure I will achieve a lot with the help of this cow. First, this cow has numerous benefits such as getting milk for my family which will make us healthier. I can also decide on selling the remaining liters to friends and getting some money which will be my main source of income since I only depend on temporary casual jobs. Therefore I feel this business of selling milk will boost me greatly. Secondly, I will be getting some manure which will help my farm to be more productive, resulting in good harvests.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my transfer on purchasing some livestock such as two dairy cows and goats KES 46000. These have been the well thoughtful living that I have been longing to keep for so many years but I could not afford it because they were too expensive. I settled on buying them because of various benefits, such as getting milk, manure and many more. With the remaining amount of money, I bought enough foodstuffs and some other household items such as plastic chairs.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Reinforcing my house with stones plus cement to make it strong is something that has been impossible due to lack of enough money. My plan once I receive this money is to spend 60,000 Kenya shillings to buy the building materials and also to cater for the labour. I will also spend 30,000 Kenya shillings to buy 2 indigenous dairy cows which will provide milk for sell in order to get income. This will change my life for the better and hence, a happy life.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Evening is the happiest part of my day because this is the time I return home after farm work. This time I spend with my family and also narrating stories while sharing our meals. Unlike in the morning and afternoon hours when I am busy working in my farm.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I work as a farmer whereby I do manually farming. My life condition does not allow to use tractor for farming and this means low yields which only lasts for 3 months. Therefore, I have consistently consider that food insecurity has always been the biggest hardship in my life.
