How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
After finishing Form Four, I decided to pursue tailoring school. My current aim is to complete my training there and then move on to journalism school to pursue my career. Journalism has always been my passion, and I have full confidence that I can succeed in this field. I am planning to save up enough money to enroll in journalism school.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I received my transfers, I was filled with excitement. I swiftly made a plan and decided to buy a goat. Presently, I own two goats, and I bought another one for $25. Owning goats will aid me in facing future challenges as I can sell them to meet my needs. Additionally, I wanted to improve my appearance, so I invested $9 in some good clothes since the ones I had were worn out.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My top priority right now is starting college, and I'm delighted to share that I will be doing just that this October. My dream has always been to study journalism and communication, a passion I have had since I was a little girl. Thanks to the combined efforts of my mother and me, we've managed to save enough from transfers to cover the course fees. This opportunity means a lot to me because I'm confident that completing college will lead to a good job, ultimately improving my family's financial situation.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am the second-born in a family of seven children, and my parents have worked tirelessly to ensure that my siblings and I receive an education despite our financial challenges. Despite my mother's unemployment and my father's occupation of selling water in town, my family's commitment to education is unwavering. I recently completed secondary school, but my dream of attending college has been hampered by financial constraints. Thanks to the transfers, I invested $25 in purchasing five chickens, which I intend to raise until they reach maturity. The plan is to sell them when I eventually go to college, providing me with a source of income for any necessary expenses. Additionally, I allocated the remaining $77 from the transfers to clear my siblings' school fees arrears. They had been sent home due to accumulated debts, and it brings me immense joy to report that these transfers have not only helped me but also my family in settling our outstanding debts, providing much-needed relief for my family.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I completed my secondary education but I had no money to help me further my studies, and my main goal is to further my studies. I, therefore, wanted to venture into something that would help me generate income so that I enroll in the course of my dreams. I started a chicken-rearing project and I now have a total of 8 and I still want to buy more so that by September, I would sell some of them to get the money for my school fees. I also plan to be saving part of my transfers in order to achieve this goal.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The transfers that I have been receiving from GiveDitectly had been of great help. I completed my secondary education but I had no money to help me further my studies, I therefore wanted to venture into something that would help me generate income so that I enroll for a course of my dreams. I started a chicken-rearing project where I initially had 6 chicken but I was able to spend the most recent transfers worth $10 to buy 2 more and I now have a total of 8 chicken. I also decided to spend part of the transfers on catering to some of the needs, and I bought food for my family worth $10.70, bought myself some clothes worth $10 and spent the remaining amount of $4 on settling some school fees balance for two of my siblings who had been sent home.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
In December of last year, I completed my O'level, and currently, I am just at home. Before the year began, I set out a goal to save money to raise my college fees because I had desired from my childhood to be a journalist. I intend to enroll in college in the latter part of this year to pursue a degree in mass communication. My desire to become a news anchor has motivated me to put in more effort. I will save a proportion of my transfers to realize this goal is fulfilled as long as I continue to obtain my monthly transfer.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
With my recent transfer, I spent $20 on domestic birds. I only had three hens, but I wanted to expand my poultry farm. It is a good venture since I can quickly sell some of them when I need cash for my family. I used the remaining amount, $14 on food for our family of seven, which consists of my mother, my father, and four siblings. Due to my parents' meager income, they always struggle to support us. A situation that forced my mother to resolve to livestock keeping to supplement the family's needs. However, the previous transfers for the last three months helped me to offset my O; level fee arrears since I completed it last year.

What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am nineteen years old and in form four at Mnazumwenga Secondary school. It's been three days since I was out of school due to school fee arrears. I have an accumulative debt of $80 and the school won't let me go back before paying. My father fetches water for the neighbor at $3 a pitcher. In a day he fetches ten pitchers and he uses the money to buy food for my family. My mother produces charcoal, she produces two sacks a week and sells at $4 which helps pay school fees for myself and my six siblings. My parent struggles to pay school fees for all of us but the transfer we got last month has eased the burden, all the other siblings are in school as I wait for my next transfer to pay the arrears and go back to class.

In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Thr organization is doing a great job in my opinion because the finances have been quite life changing to myself and my family. I absolutely have no idea how long I would stayed home without attending school were it not for me receiving the funds when I did. Therefore I an grateful and happy for my enrollment into the program.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Since I still happen to be in school, as soon as I realised I had received the finances, I decided to use it to pay for my tuition fee. This is because I had not been attending school for over a week because my parents had failed to pay school fees for me. Luckily the funds from the organization came in at the right time, and I eventually managed to pay school fees worth KES 2,000 with the transfers I had received. I still have a debt of KES 13,500 that I still have not cleared, but the little amount I paid helped me resume class. I then went ahead and used the balance of KES 1,000 left and bought two hens accumulating to four because I wanted to invest in poultry farming so that I could eventually help myself financially and in paying my school fees when the need arises.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
Getting the MPESA alert on that day was a true surprise that I did not expect at the time. I was busy doing the dishes when I got the message and I nearly dropped some of them due to excitement. I screamed with much joy and happiness could be seen all over my face. I went on to withdraw the amount the following day and put it to good use.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest impact receiving the funds has brought is that I have job been able to expand my project by adding more chicken to what I already had and now I have a total of four. This is a welcome relief as when I am done with school, I can fully concentrate on my already running project.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The KES 1200 received from GiveDirectly has been a major boost to my prospects of becoming a poultry farmer while still in school. I am a student in form three going to the fourth form and the second born among seven siblings. Mum is a housewife as dad does casual jobs always hoping to give us the best. From the total amount I received, I used KES 1000 to purchase two chicken and the remainder of KES 200, I was able to groom myself by buying some new clothes.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I had no hopes for the coming academic term for it was communicated by the headteacher that no student with fee arrears should step into the school compound when the holiday is over. My elder brother dropped out while in form three and I was seeing myself through the same fate. I am so grateful to GiveDirectly for my worries are melted and I am eagerly waiting for the cash so that I can partly offset the current fee balance of 3500 KES and secure my chance in school. The subsequent transfers will be directed towards the same goal (paying school fees for secondary education and college thereafter).
What is the happiest part of your day?
The last academic year was one of the toughest. The number of days I stepped into a class can be counted. After being sent home to collect school fees, I spent ample time on my studies. It was unbelievable to myself and my parents when I emerged among the top ten when the results were out. As a result, my mother gifted me a cock which I will use to make pilau on my birthday which is coming late next month.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My persuit to be the first person in my family to have attained secondary education has been of great challenge. It is a tough journey with several times of in and off school in search for academic remissions. My dad who does casual jobs in town has been mainly contributing towards food and other basics. My dream to become a journalist is day by day dimmed as I draw nearer to my last year of secondary education.
