How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
In the coming year and beyond, I will be focusing on getting enough building materials that will then see me have the floor of my house cemented. I already have enough cement and only waiting to have the floor of my house cemented once I get enough reapurces. I know right now that I can do very little to raise enough money to do this but with the help of my children, I will be able to raise enough money and sell some of my goats and see this come to pass. I am so much impressed by the water tank that I bought and willl always be indebted to GiveDirectly for this. My focus now os to see the floor or my house cemented and then enjoy my old age with my grandchildren. Without the boost that I received from GiveDirectly, I would not have thought of accomplishing all these within the time that I have accomplished.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly does very well by giving the cash that they give without conditions. Old people like me were able to make informed decisions on how the money was going to be spent. I personally was able to buy enough food during this period and got to be stress free a lot. I am so kuch happy and grateful for this. Looking at the water tank that I bought and the beautiful store that I built makes my heart happy. The store that I initially owned was brought down by termites and I cannot be grateful enough that I now have another one.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used $150 from my last transfer of $450 to purchase cement that was meant to improve my house by cementing the floor. I also used another $100 to purchase iron sheets and other building materials for my newly constructed store. The remaining amout of $200 was ised to erect gathers in my house and to buy food for my family as well. I am so impressed and delighted about the water tank that I bought with the hep of GiveDirectly transfers. This has seen me have enough water in my compound unlike before when I would have to rely on a motorcycle to get clean drinking water in my compound. I could not travel for long distances in search of clean drinking water because of my old age. I am extremely happy that I am no longer prone to waterborne diseaseses that would come about as a result of using insafe water for local household consumption. Once I get enough money, I will be able to use the money to cement the floor of my house to make it more comfortable and easier to maintain.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I don't have a granary at the moment. It is my intention to build a granary that serves as both a store and a place to store animal feeds and other items. The risk of theft is increased because some theses are frequently left outside. My aim also is to be able to provide for the requirements of my grandchildren who depend on me for their school expenses.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I appreciate that I was given the cash and that there were no restrictions placed on how I might use it. This allowed me the freedom and assurance to carefully plan them. In my opinion, Givedirectly generally did a good job.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent a big percangate of my second transfer to purchase a 5000 Litre water tank. For us tk access clean water we have to send someone with a motorbike to go and buy some at a water poin which is I committed a significant portion of my second transfer to the purchase of a 5000-liter water tank. To get access to clean water, we had to send someone on a motorbike to a water station to purchase some, which is expensive because I also needed to purchase for my young goats. Since I lacked the funds to buy one, my long-held desire for a water tank remained only a dream. Givedirectly's fulfillment of this dream makes me happy. Since I already collected enough rainwater for my household requirements as well as the needs of my goats, I no longer worry as much about a lack of water. as I have to buy for my young goats too. I had always yearned for a water tank but since I did not have the fisances tk purchase it, it only became a dream. I am glad that this dream has been made a reality by Givedirectly. Nlw I do not worry about lacking water as much as I already harvested some rain water, enough for my household needs and for my goats.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
Receiving funds from GiveDirectly filled me with hope for brighter days ahead. I knew that the promise of my first transfer would have a significant impact on my life. I vividly recall the moment when I received the funds. Due to my age and health, I was relaxing at home when my phone rang. Unsure of what it could be, I called my daughter for clarification, and that's when she broke the incredible news that I had received a cash transfer from GiveDirectly. I was initially in disbelief, but it quickly turned into the best news I had received in a long time. I am overjoyed and deeply grateful for the support that has brought so much happiness into my life.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The transfer I received has had a tremendous positive impact on my life, and I am incredibly grateful. One of the most significant changes is that I was able to purchase a water tank, which allows me to store clean water for daily consumption. This is a vast improvement from the past when we had to purchase water every day. Additionally, I was able to purchase enough food to meet our needs. Knowing that neither myself nor my family will go hungry brings me immense happiness, and I am deeply thankful for this assistance.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When GiveDirectly promised to provide me with funds, I knew it would be the best investment for me and my family. We decided to prioritize purchasing a water tank to reduce the daily cost of buying water, which had become very expensive, as we needed at least $2 per day. The streams were far away, and due to my age, it was challenging for me to collect water. As I am not currently working and depend on my children for support, this expense was a significant burden. I live with my daughter and two grandchildren, and while I am unsure of the exact cost of the water tank due to my age, I did purchase additional food supplies. I am eternally grateful for the kindness and generosity we received.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
Receiving this money means quality education for my granddaughter whom I am taking care of. With old age, I cannot do any job to fend for her and instead I rely on selling my goats to get money for both food and school fees. I have sold almost all of them and remain with only three. She luckily got admission to a prestigious secondary school and I am happy because she will get the opportunity to make her life better. This transfer will see her join the school and get all the necessary items next month. Thereafter she can pursue a dream career of her choice enabling her to change our lives and lead a decent one day. I plan on also purchasing a storage tank that will ensure I have continuous supply for household and livestock consumption.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My granddaughter passed her primary level exams last month and she luckily got admission to a prestigious secondary school. Even though school fees are a challenge, I am happy because she will get the opportunity to make her life better. Thereafter she can pursue a dream career of her choice enabling her to change our lives and lead a descent on one day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lack of clean water for home use and livestock is the greatest challenge. With my old age, I rely on my children to purchase and grandchildren to fetch water for me. When they are not around, I struggle a lot and sometimes goats die for lack of water and pasture. The lack of rains has largely contributed to this and we have no better options.
