Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 8:00 am, I had just woken up and was preparing breakfast for my children when I heard a message tone come through my phone. I asked my spouse to check it for since he was seated next to my phone. I was shocked to realize it was from Give Directly. I didn't expect them to fulfill their promise that soon. I was so excited, I remember leaving whatever I was doing that morning and started celebrating. I feel bad my kids were late that day but they understood, I couldn't suppress my joy.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Running the two businesses has made more financially stable. To me, this is the biggest difference in my daily life. I always wanted to start a business but since I didn't have the required capital due to I was forced to rely on the low paying casual jobs. I am so happy now because the transfer has enabled me to buy a motorcycle and start a business of selling fish. Ever since I started the two businesses I have seen a great transformation in my life. I no longer struggle to pay fees for my children like before. Currently, I am paying I advance to avoid distractions of my kids being sent home. Apart from that, I also don't strain much in meeting my family's needs.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent a larger portion of my fist transfer on buying a motorcycle. This has been my dream for a long time, however, I could not afford to purchase it since I didn't have the means to do so. I purposely bought it for a business. My son has been jobless for quite some time and I feel good this motorcycle has provided a source of income for his family. I spent the remaining amount of money to start another business of selling fish from door to door. The business picked after a few weeks after initiating it. I settled in starting this business because fish are in high demand since it is the staple food in this region. The drought that came in recently increased the demand because vegetables can't grow with the extreme weather condition

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Having a stable source of income has been my greatest desire, however, financial constraints have limited this from achieving its full realization. I intend to empower my daughter by setting up a tailoring business for her at Bamba center.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Evening is the happiest part of the day. Having accomplished the day's activities always gives me joy. I spend most part of my day at the farm cultivating, and I always yearn for it to end so that I can rest.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Losing my husband to death 2 years ago was the beginning of hard times in my family. And given that he was the sole provider, I haven't been able to adequately meet the educational and medical needs of the my daughter who has a tumor on her mouth.
