I used to do poultry farming sometime back before I relocated to this place 4 months ago. I have always had a plan to start all over again because it used to help me a lot with family expenses. I plan to use this money to build a small poultry unit at a low cost because I already have iron sheets. One chicken costs 300 KES and with the 3,000 KES, I will buy 10 of them . I will be adding more as I continue receiving the transfers. My target is selling the chicken during market days so as to earn income to buy food and pay school fees for my children.
What is the happiest part of your day?
There is very little to be happy about because of the struggle to get basic needs. However, my two children are always my source of joy. The last four months have been tough mainly because we are trying to adjust to a new environment. I am glad that other than the flu that my children have been having, I have not visited any hospital with a worse condition.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Food insecurity is my biggest challenge. This is because I do not have any source of income. I depend on my spouse who is sickly and can no longer do most of the jobs because of his condition. We often skip meals due to scarcity of food. I shifted to this place 4 months ago and adjusting has not been easy. The change of climate has often made me and my two children sick.
