How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I want to continue educating my children until they finish school. I will be able to achieve this by saving little by little from my daily income. I am also planning to boost my business bit by bit after getting some small profit from the businesses. I would also request GiveDirectly for an additional transfer since I still have a long way to go with my family. An additional transfer will give me a big boost.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Receiving this money from GiveDirectly has been of great help to me and my family. At least my children are continuing with their education after I finished paying their school fees. I do not have any complaints at all but I am requesting additional transfers in order to continue educating my children and boosting my business.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
With the first and second transfers I received from Give Directly, I managed to build a two-roomed house, and a veranda. Also bought a mattress and a bed. The second transfer I spent on paying kes. 20000 school fees for my form one son and bought 16 pieces of iron sheets at kes. 16000. Not forgetting adequate and healthy food for my family. I also decided to share this transfer with my two daughters in order to boost them start off their businesses. In that regard, I gave my first daughter kes. 5000 capitals to start selling cooking flour and the second daughter I gave kes. 6000 to start cooking and selling French fries. I believe by doing this our family will be able to afford basic needs with no issues. I am a mother of six, four girls and two boys. I am a casual worker who also farms maize, beans vegetables, and burning and sells charcoal. My husband works as a casual worker on a construction site.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was exactly at 9 am when I was at my workplace trimming plants, this is a temporary casual activity at Komaza Kenya. I was with my friend who informed me that the GiveDirectly cash is out and several villages had received the aid. I decided to verify my phone and to my disbelief, I realized that I had received the transfer. I was very happy for receiving such an amount of money that would change our lives for the better.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am currently living a happy life after supporting my kid's educational needs. I am very sure that they will be able to get a quality education something that will assure them a better future.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 11,000 to purchase proper beddings for my family. Previously, I was using a small, old mattress which was not comfortable. I also used KES 30,000 to clear all the school fees for my 3 children, 2 are about to join college and one secondary respectively. I also spent KES 5000 to boost my daughter's small shop business by purchasing more stock. Her shop was not stable enough due to insufficient capital. With the remaining amount, I bought iron sheets that I intend to use to construct a new and spacious house for my family. The one we have is small which forces some of my family members to seek refuge from our neighbor.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have never slept on a comfortable bed with a mattress since I was born. The comfort that comes when you sleep in such kind of a bed has always been my desire. Paying school fees is another challenge that I would love to find a lasting solution to. The first thing I will do when I receive the transfer is to buy a bed and mattress at KES 14,000, use KES 40,000 on school fees for my child in secondary school and take the remaining KES 1000 to cater for my other children's fees in primary school. Receiving this money means sleeping comfortably and paying school fees for my children with ease.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Amidst all the financial constraints that I have been experiencing I am happy that I am alive and healthy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Paying school fees for my 6 children has always been my challenge. I have one child in secondary school where I pay KES 40,000 per year and others are in primary school. My worry is how I am going to pay secondary school fees to two children because one is completing his primary school in March. The challenge that I currently face is a lack of money to pay school fees for my children with ease.
