How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
We are peasant farmers but I look forward to engaging in agribusiness. This is where my focus and passion are and mostly growing cereals that mature very fast, just within 3 months. I anticipate selling them to earn income and also use the rest to pay school fees in kind for my two children who are in Cheboyo secondary school.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has brought a lot of impact on us. They engaged us well with respect and dignity. At first, I was afraid that I might be interviewed by a non local and that I would struggle to understand to the contrary we were handled so well and understood everything they taught us.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Nothing beats the joy we had when we received the transfers. It was the highest moment of our lives. We have lived a life full of misery and destitution. Our house was in bad shape and we were in dire need of a better house. Receiving the transfers enabled us to build a decent iron sheet roofed house, it was a dream that had eluded us for so long because we did not have enough money. We also used part of the money to purchase a dairy cow that is now producing enough milk for our 8 children.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was at a fundraising event around the village when I overheard people whispering that they had received money from GiveDirectly. I immediately checked my phone to no avail. Before I could return my phone to my pocket I Suddenly heard a message tone. On checking, I saw a Mpesa notification showing that I had received money from GiveDirectly. This was the best news that came my way, I was overwhelmed with joy and happiness because I knew that I would be able to accomplish my goals. I am forever grateful for the support that made things easy for us.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I was able to purchase a dairy cow. I feel happy and contented to have achieved my goal in a short period. I no longer worry about buying milk daily meaning that I would be able to save up the money. In addition to that my health has generally improved because I was able to seek good medication, though it was expensive but it was worth all the trouble. I am so happy for the support that tremendously brought change to our lives.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I do casual jobs in the village to earn a livelihood and I am a mother of eight children. Upon the receipt of my initial transfer, I thought of purchasing a dairy cow worth KES 20,000 to reduce the cost of buying expensive milk daily. I could not afford a cow before due to unreliable sources of income. Secondly, I used KES 15,000 on medication. Lastly, I bought building materials worth KES 15,000 so that I would be able to construct a house once my second transfer is in. The impact of the transfer is immense thus we are grateful to the organization for the unconditional support.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
We have eight children and my husband is very old and always sick. All house expenses including school fees and providing basic needs depends on me. Im struggling with casual jobs to raise school fees for my two children who are in highschool. I pay about KES 60,000 in a year. Although I get help from my brothers, but it is too little to depend on. I'm happy that Give Directly help will assist me at least to clear this year balance and use the remaining amount to build a better house.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I got some support from members of the public and family who fundraised for the medication of my husband. I was a bit relieved and happy for the support I got from them.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My husband is very old and always sick. I'm responsible on both taking care of him and providing for his medication. I also look for school fees for my children while providing them with basic needs. Life is taught over here.
