My new goal is to buy more land and start another sustainable business. I would like to buy more land because the one that I have is small in size and thus it is not enough to do farming. I would like to have somewhere where I can grow crops for subsistence use for my family. I am currently a motorcycle taxi driver and this is the business that I have been depending on to earn a living. The motorcycle taxi business is currently no longer doing well as before. This is because most people bought motorbikes with the transfers that they got from GiveDirectly and hence less income due to the big competition. I hence would like to start another business, that is, buying and selling cows because the income from it is more and it is going to enable me to meet all the needs of my family comfortably. I still owe the schools where my children are studying some money since I was not able to clear their school fees. I thus have a goal to look for money for paying the arrears.

GiveDirectly did well because they honored their promise of sending the transfers to us. They changed our lives for the better since people were able to make many developments with it. They built other houses, bought livestock, paid school fees, and many more. GiveDirectly staff are also very polite and humble in how they relate with the community members. I thus do not see any wrong that they did in how they were conducting their work. I thus urge them to continue with the good work.

I spent most of the recent transfer, that is, KES 30000 on buying another new motorcycle. I bought it on hire purchase. I bought another one and I hired someone to ride the one that I had. I decided to do so so that I could increase the income that I make every day. The person that I hired as a motorbike rider gives me KES 300 every day. The business is however no longer doing well like before since most people purchased motorbikes after they got the transfers. This business has been helping me to earn a living for my family. The money that I usually get most of it goes to the purchase of daily food and a little goes to the payment of school fees for my three children. I am however glad that with the two motorbikes, I have been able to save some money unlike before. Other than that, I also spent KES 14000 of the transfer on the treatment of one of my children who was not feeling well. With the remaining amount, I used it in buying food for the consumption of my family. I am thus grateful to GiveDirectly for their help.

I was away from home that day and at around 9:00 am, I received a message that brought the most exciting news ever. I was glad to see that the money I enrolled for with GiveDirectly was finally in my account on a day that I least expected. I had to call back home and inform my family that was very excited as well. We had been planning together as we hope that the money would soon be in our account and receiving it was a great moment for us that we had to thank God for. I promised them to be home earlier that day since we needed to decide on the day to collect before we start our first project.

The biggest difference in my daily life is being the rightful owner of the dairy cow that I had been keeping for quite a long time. I had been seeing its calves sold out by the owner one after the other but going forward I will be the owner and selling them too when the need comes up. I spent KES30000 on paying for the dairy cow that my neighbor had given me to rear and milk for my children before he decided to sell. I had been keeping the cow for the past two years and can attest that it has been of great help to my family of seven since we could not buy milk at all whenever it was lactating. We had also been selling the surplus and using the outcome in sorting household bills. I also bought school uniforms and paid school fees for my two children in the lower primary school that cost a total of KES11000, paid the medical bill for my son who was not feeling well at KES5000, obtained a new piece of furniture at KES2300, and also bought foodstuff enough for my household at KES3000. I am grateful to GiveDirectly for all that has changed in our home within a very short time and looking forward to the second transfer as I still have a lot more projects to initiate.
