How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
With a small family of three and currently enrolled in a degree course at the University, I have a lot of potential to do a lot in order to fully provide for my family as it grows. I am glad that the first and second transfers sparked significant projects that are now picking up steam. Even after injecting $160 of my second transfer, my new goal is to expand the poultry project. The project has helped to meet daily household bills by selling eggs, and it has a long-term goal of selling mature chickens to potential buyers in the community and beyond.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does well by allowing people to spend their money however they see fit after receiving it. Many families have changed considerably since receiving support, with many improving their living conditions, others investing in livestock, and still others paying school fees for their children. The comprehensive enrollment plan that met the needs of everyone in their household helped everyone understand the project and gave them confidence as they planned their sending.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I received the second transfer shortly after sustaining a minor fracture on my left leg while playing in school. Spending it on my medical bill was not in my original plan, but I was grateful that it arrived when I needed to pay a $150 bill after three visits to the hospital for treatment. I had to reduce other calls to fit the budget and also leave enough money for my wife and child when I left for school. On my ongoing poultry project, I spent $160 on chicken feed and adding more birds to the brood. My spouse has been keeping a close eye on the project, and I am pleased to hear of their consistent output. On my poultry project, I spent $160 on chicken feed and adding more birds to the brood. The sheep project is also running alongside, and I am impressed by their growing number, which is now at 12 after adding four with $158 from the second transfer. Sheep have a short gestation period, so they are a sure way to multiply our wealth, which will help pay household bills, my school fees for my current degree program, and my son's when he starts his preliminary classes. I left the remainder with my wife, who is currently managing the new projects and caring for my child while I am away in school.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was thrilled and thankful when I received a message from GiveDirectly. I had left the account number with my wife at home since I was in school. She called me and informed me as soon as she received to share the news that it was very exciting. I gave her the go-ahead to collect the money since we had enlisted all we needed to invest in a week before I went back to school.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the significant improvement in my family's living standard. I had been able to sufficiently provide the daily upkeep with little struggle, especially at the moment since I am still tasked with raising my school fees. I am grateful to GiveDirectly for giving us a helping hand that made everything easier in the past month.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
My spouse had been passionate about a business idea that came at the top of our spending list at the receipt of the transfer. She has been hoping to venture into the second-hand clothes selling business that I could not hesitate in endorsing. She had a versed experience in the field as she once run a successful one before we got married. From the first transfer, I spent KES 25000 on obtaining the full stock she needed and I am glad that she has been working hard to ensure that the business picks within a short time. I also spent KES 8000 on buying two sheep that we are currently rearing, hoping to breed them and multiply them in the future. This livestock project will come in handy with our plan to buy a dairy cow that, even though we don't have enough money at the moment, selling some of the sheep in the future will help in raising the required amount. I also bought a new piece of furniture at KES 6400, enough foodstuff for my family of two at KES 5000, and saved the remaining amount to serve any arising need within the household. I am grateful to GiveDirectly for this generous support and looking forward to accomplishing a lot after the second transfer.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I got married ten months ago and I am enjoying my married life. I love the independence and the power to choose what I do for my household. I recently started a second-hand clothes business to enable us to lay a foundation in our family. I enjoy an average of profit KES 150. I feel good to earn this amount since it enables me to meet my daily needs and give my husband good time and peace of mind to study. I wish to see him graduate so that he can also help further my education. To be receiving this money means a dream come true. I am planning to use KES 40000 to pay my husband's school fee. This will be a great achievement for us knowing that in the next six months he will be done. I have plans that I will also join college since he will be in a position to facilitate my fee. I thank GiveDirectly for the handy hand.
What is the happiest part of your day?
It's now three months since I started a second-hand clothes business to enable us to lay a foundation in our family. I enjoy an average of profit KES 150. This has been my biggest source of joy. I enjoy my independence out my profits unlike before. I am certain soon it will grow bigger thus gain higher profits which I will use to fully set up my household.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial instability is my major challenge currently. I have a passion for education and my biggest ambition is to join the tertiary level. Even though I do business earning a profit of KES 150 a day, this only caters to my daily household needs. I got married immediately after I my form four since I could not afford to join college. I remain hopeful that soon I will be able to.
