Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly. I actually never thought that I would receive the money until that day. There was this thought that something could come up and we could be told that we were not going to receive the money anyway. There were reports about people who had made calls to GiveDirectly to report that certain members of the village had made calls and made allegations that certain people were not supposed to receive money. This made me doubt so much whether I was going to receive the money.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life that has come about because of this transfer is the assets that I now own. The dairy cow that I bought meant that we now have enough milk supply for our family. Not only do we have enough milk supply but I have also started a poultry keeping business that I am so much optimistic that it will raise income for my family and change the living standards. I chose poultry keeping particularly because it is going to give instant income that will bring about a change in living standards in the shortest time possible.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my first transfer to buy a dairy cow. Dairy keeping is one of the most cherished economic activity in this area since the climate in here is favourable for dairy farming. I did not have a reliable dairy cow that would help me meet the daily needs and improve the economic status of my family. this was because the little that I got from my casual jobs was just enough to meet the daily needs and had none to save up and realize this goal even in future. I was able to use part of the transfer as well to start a poultry keeping business. Poultry keeping has been a business idea that I have been habouring for sometime now. This is so because it is one of the most viable business ideas that would turn around the living standards of my family and I. As it stands, very few people are operating this kind of my business in my village and I would get a ready market for my eggs from within and around the village.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I rely on milk production to meet my basic needs. Therefore, I am planning to buy an additional cow costing approximately 35,000 shillings. Also, I have identified a gap in poultry farming in my village given that there is no serious poultry farmer around. I will therefore leverage on this opportunity to spend approximately 30,000 shillings to start a serious poultry project of about 80 to 100 chicken.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Morning is the happiest part of my day because this is the time I thank the Lord in prayer for a new day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Availability of power is my main challenge currently. I rely on solar power for lighting in my home. Sometimes when its gloomy, I don't have power in my house and I have to rely on parafin.
