How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different now In that, with the motorcycle taxi business my husband can earn an income out of it, we no longer worry about paying school and other expenses that are anticipated for like medical expenses, We also own our own dairy cow, We are very pleased and overwhelmed with happiness on seeing what GiveDirectly has enabled us to accomplish, My husband and I are so grateful for the support that brought meaning to our lives.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly is a well-organized organization that supports the local communities to elevate poverty, it's is doing remarkable work by empowering both the young and old. I don't see anything that is not done well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
My husband is a casual laborer yet what he earns is very little to sustain our family most of the time, I am a housewife, and a mother of 3 children of which 2 are schooling, When we received our second transfer We bought a second-hand motorcycle worth KES 35,000 for my husband to start a motorcycle taxi business, and with this, he could earn an income. I then used KES 10,000 to buy a dairy cow so that my children can have milk daily which is essential for their health.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
Receiving the transfer was a great joy to every member of my household. That moment was awesome to everyone and much greater to me as I knew exactly how big the impact will be after spending. It never took me any longer to rush, withdraw, and back home as we already had a plan on the expenditures.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life after receiving the transfer is the dairy cattle I currently have on my farm. It was a worthy sacrifice for my household to spend half of the transfer on purchasing a good breed as I have always wished to own one to cut the cost of buying milk from the neighborhood. Feeding it and ensuring that it is in good health every morning brightens my day. It was with great honor that GiveDirectly came in at the right time with the support we had always been wishing for. We will forever be grateful and all I am currently doing with the transfer will remain memorable.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
After buying milk for our domestic use for many years, GiveDirectly finally made it possible for us to own a cow. With the first 27000KES, I managed to obtain a dairy cattle which even though it is not lactating at the moment, we are glad that the signs are clear and will soon be serving us with enough milk. I spent part of the remaining amount on buying new clothes for every member in the household and the last bit on foodstuff.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means improved health for my family. We have been struggling to make ends meet through casual labor which my husband is engaged in. He earns approximately Ksh 250 a day which is not enough to cater for a family of 5. I have therefore been aspiring to buy a dairy cow and use milk domestically and improve the health of my family members. I feel my family is not getting enough nutrients found in milk since we can only afford to buy milk for tea.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening. This is because I am a housewife and spend my morning hours doing household chores and later in the day work in my 0.1 acres of land. In this piece of land, we have grown maize for domestic use and go there to weed, dig, or fence. I use my afternoon hours fetching firewood and water for my household which will take me until late in the evening. Reuniting with my husband in the evening after the day's work rejuvenates my life.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial inadequacy has been the biggest hardship we have faced in life. My husband is the sole breadwinner in the family earning a meager wage of approximately Ksh 250 a day. Even though we have 0.1 acres of land under cultivation where we have grown maize for domestic use, the produce we get (approximately 2 bags) cannot sustain a family of 5 for an entire year. Owing to this, we have been unable to save enough to buy a dairy cow for my family. Thanks to Give Directly for coming to this region, a move that will soon materialize my dreams.
