How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different from the way it would have been if I never received the transfer in that if it was not for GiveDirectly my child would not have continued with her college education. This is because, by the time I received the transfer, I had college fees arrears of 120,000 KES. This is because the income I get from the domestic work I do for a living and the bursary I got was not enough to settle the arrears. Without GiveDirectly my child would not have gotten the chance of pursuing her education. I am thankful to GiveDirectly for making this dream come true.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well in transparency and the money they issue in lumpsum brings an evident growth because in my whole life I have never handled 110,000 KES which I was given out of a free will. On the other hand, I do not feel there is anything Give Directly is not doing well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the larger part of the money I reached to settle school arrears for my child who is in college 30,000 KES and now I am glad seeing my child go to college.I also bought beddings, a cupboard and household utensils.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my life since I started receiving this transfer is that I was able to pay fees balance for my son who had missed his first month of attachment because of fees balance. Due to my low income from casual work, I was not able to pay his fees in time that's why he had to be delayed in going for his industrial attachment. The school could not approve of his attachement because of his fees balance. When he graduates, I pray he gets a well-paying job so that he can help me provide for the family as he is like my husband after my husband passed away last year.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt very happy because I never knew I could get such amount of money in my life. This is the highest amount I have ever received in my life ever since I was born. I was used to the little I receive from casual work with the highest amount being KES 1000. This was my best day in so many years.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my transfer on paying part of the school fees balance for my son in college who had missed attachment due to the huge fees balance of KES 86,000. I also bought building materials such as timber, iron sheets and nails which I used in building a new kitchen so that my children who used to go to my neighbour's house to sleep, could find spending place to avoid the risk they used to go through when moving at night to where they used to spend. The remaining part of the transfer, I used in buying household items such as cushions, bedding and utensils which I felt I really needed because those that I had were old and as a woman, it is my duty to ensure my family is comfortable hence I had to improve the status of my properties.
