What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
Receiving this money will empower me to cultivate crops on my farm, similar to my neighbors. With these funds, I will purchase pipes and a generator to effectively irrigate my land. Consequently, I won't need to rely on charcoal burning as my main income source, as vegetable farming will provide a stable livelihood. Moreover, this initiative will significantly enhance my ability to tackle food security issues, marking a pivotal improvement in my life in the upcoming months.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Over the past six months, I accomplished building a decent one-room house. This became feasible after a successful rainy season allowed me to plant maize on our farm. Alongside charcoal burning, these activities provided the means to construct my new home. From the harvest, I gathered 10 sacks of maize, earning KES 25,000, and sold 20 sacks of charcoal for an additional KES 10,000. I am now delighted to have a solid house, a significant improvement from my previous dwelling which was a dilapidated grass-thatched structure.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Food security is my primary concern. Despite numerous efforts, I haven't been able to overcome this challenge. Living a kilometer away from a river makes it impossible to grow crops on my farm. It's heartbreaking to see my children go hungry, especially when I can't find casual labor to secure food for them.
