With these cash transfer, I was able to purchase building materials for building another permanent house for my children because the one we are occupying can not accomodate us. Secondly, I managed to clear a debt which was burdening me. Previously, I could not afford to pay it off.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
My life has changed in a way that, I have bought construction materials that I intend to use for building my children's house. In addition, I am to settle the debt that I currently have which will enable me repossess my piece of land that is in the possession of the money lender. Previously I didn't have enough money to settle the debt and buy construction materials much as I needed to build a separate house for my children.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my money from GiveDirectly, I became very happy because I knew it would enable me build a house for my children and settle the debt that I had.

I spent my first transfer to purchase 10 pieces of iron sheets, bricks, food and paid my child's school fees. I have not yet spent UGX 500,000 but I intend to spent it to pay a debt and buy some clothes for myself.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means I will be able to build an iron roofed house for my children. We all share the same house which is very inconvincing since they(children) have grown up. Incase of any balance, I will buy oxen to support farming.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when I am seated and Chating with my other family members. We are able to learn from one another.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Sickness is the biggest hardship that I am faced with. The little money that I get is spent on paying medical bills and yet there is need to also take care of other household needs. Most of the time when the term opens, children need to get back to school but it finds when there are almost no savings to provide for them the fact that I am not also in the best position to work as expected.
