How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than how it would have been because, through financial help, I was able to build a new house. Previously I used to shelter under a very small house and it could not accommodate some of my children, therefore they had to sleep at their grandmother's house. To add to that, managed to take my daughter to the hospital, she has been complaining of some stomach pains for quite some time but I did not have the required money to seek the medication. However, all I could afford was to buy painkillers which were not helpful at all. After receiving the money, we had to see a doctor and she was admitted for a whole month. Currently, she is in the process of healing though she still complains but not like before. Also since my spouse abandoned me for months now, the money has been helping me in catering for the family's daily bread becasue I am jobless. If were not for this organization I had no idea how life would have been
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectky does well in that each one of us was well-infomred about the objectives theor coming into our village. Through that, everyone was satisfied with the way the offices approached us snd we had the freedom to either accept or decline to be enrolled since it was voluntary. Also, no one was discriminated at all and this even brought peace to the village
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of the second transfer on clearing the hospital bill for my daughter who had been admitted for a whole month. He has been complaining of some stomach pains for quite some time but I could not afford to raise the amount required to take her to the hospital. Luckily GiveDirectly came in good time because I managed to take her to the doctor. I am glad she is quite doing good though she hasn't healed fully. Also, I am planning to purchase some goats as living assets that will serve as investments that I can lean on anytime. Also with the removing amount of money, I bought enough foodstuffs for my family.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I saw the message notification in my phone in the morning. On checking the contents, I realised I had received my first transfer from GiveDirectly. I felt happy for the money would completely change my life because I could now afford to build a decent house.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now sheltering in a decent and spacious house. My previous house was in a bad condition to the extent that one side was almost collapsing. I could not renovate it on time due to financial constraints. Through the transfer, I managed to buy the materials and I am now happily living in my new house. It would have taken me years to save enough money for this purpose had I not received the transfer.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 19000 of my first transfer on buying a cow. At least I have an asset at my homestead. I am expecting to sell milk for an income besides the cow reproducing and have many of them. In addition to this, I also bought some building materials which include building poles, nails and iron sheets in order to construct a new house. My previous house was small and almost collapsing. I could not renovate it since I could not afford to buy the required materials. Lastly, I also bought a new bed and a mattress and replaced the old beddings that I have been using for years.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have desired to own a decent house for my family but this has never been possible for me due to financial instability. This has made me live a desperate life to the extent of borrowing some pieces of iron sheets to cover parts of my house's roof because it was leaking. With the arrival of GiveDirectly in our village, I am now optimistic that, soon I will be able to construct a spacious and decent house. To accomplish this, I intend to spend utmost 30000 shillings. On the other hand, I also plan to use 15000 shillings to buy a modern bed plus a mattress to replace the old beddings and the roped bed. The remaining amount will help me to buy livestock to have a long term project. This will change my livelihood for the better, a transformation that I have wished for a long time.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I consider the evening as the happiest part of my day because it at this moment when I get ample time to rest and share a meal with my children. Unlike in the morning and afternoon hours when I am ever busy working on the farm and doing charcoal work in the bush respectively.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Charcoal burning is what I have known in my life ever since I got married 25 years ago. This job is very tiresome and time-consuming but since I don't have an alternative job, I am always forced to doing this so that I get food for my children. Therefore, the lack of a decent source of income is the biggest hardship that I have ever faced in my life.
