How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My short-term goal is to ensure I sell all my chicken during this festive season so that I can get profits and add more for the coming year. I would also like to add goats to the business,
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does well depositing the transfer directly into our accounts. We get all the money intended for us. I am happy with the project.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a businessman, I own 400 chickens and 30 ducks. I rear them and sell them whenever I need the money. I also own a retail shop where I get $15 a day. This money helps me buy food and pay school fees for my five children. As a businessman, I opted to use my transfer to buy two water tanks at $750 and I already started a water business where I sell a 20 liters jerrican at $0.1. In a day I get $20 that helps me save for an emergency.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 8 Am and I was just checking my phone as usual. I got a message on my phone indicating that I have received KES 55,000 from GiveDirecly. I felt so happy because I knew I would be able to purchase a water tank which was my main concern. When I informed my family members everyone was so happy as well. we planned with the family and withdraw the money the following day.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Purchasing a water tank is the biggest difference in my daily life. This is to cut the daily cost of hiring people to get the water for domestic uses and the livestock. This was my priority since I saw this as a business opportunity as well. Most of the people in our area incur some cost of transporting water to their houses. I had always wanted to venture into this business of selling water at a lower price compared to transportation. When I received the transfer from GiveDirecly I purchase a ten-thousand liters water tank. I stored water for my domestic use and I sell the rest to my neighbors. This had become my main source of income since most of the people come to purchase the water. I have cut their transportation cost and saved their time to do other chores and even work on their farms. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirecly has fulfilled my dream.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent all the transfer on purchasing a water tank. The water tank cost KES 75,000 I had to top up KES 20,000 from my savings. I always used to walk for a long distance to get water for our domestic uses and my livestock. This was time consuming and costly since we would hire some people to bring the water. Currently, I have the water tank and this had saved our time to do other chores and cut the cost of transportation. I am so grateful because GiveDirecly has fulfilled my dream of owning a water tank.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
It has been my dream to buy a posho mill machine considering that I already have my retail shop running. I am happy that I will be able to sell flour from my posho mill as an added investment. I have managed to pay half of the money for the purchase but there is still some balance to be cleared. Receiving this transfer means my dreams come true. I am planning to top up 100000KES to have the posho mill machine on operation.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am happy that I was able to start my purchase for the posho mill machine I was yearning for. Right now I know that after three months my business will be operating. I have high hopes of getting higher returns because there is only one posho mill machine operating in the neighbourhood.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial instability has been my biggest challenge. Due to price inflations on some products, I am required to spend more money on product purchases. My business has gone down compared to the old days. I have started losing customers by fact that I am not reliable. This worries me a lot. If it continues I may end up closing down the business.
