What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means improved shelter. Sleeping under one roof with grown-up children is a taboo in our culture. My children go to neighbours' houses to sleep something I am not proud of as a parent. So when I receive this transfer I will spend KES 20000 to construct an ironed roofed house and for the remaining amount, I will purchase a dairy cow who will be our source of milk and income when we sell the surplus.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My husband works in a quarry and the owner gave him some money as a loan which we used to expand our land to get a place to plant food crops. This brought joy and happiness into our family and we now have maize which we are yet to harvest.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest challenge is food insecurity. I am a casual labourer doing all sorts of work available within the village. Getting three meals in a day is not guaranteed since my payment varies from money to food staff however it is not sufficient to feed my family as there are days when I do not get a job. This has been disheartening since I have young children who need good nutrition for their growth.
