How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I believe education is the key to make my children's life better thus I have to persist overwhelming needs to make sure that I pay their fee. I majorly depend on casual jobs and subsistence farming to raising an income to support ever-rising pressing family needs. I had seen myself lucky to have my children in school and colleges but raising their fees had been a big struggle for me with the limited resources I have. When I received GiveDirectly transfers, I was able to pay my children school fees. Currently, I am happy and hopeful since GiveDirectly has given me a handy hand to realize my goal.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly is doing a great favour to the needy. Having gotten their transfer I can smile for the achievement I have made using the transfer. In my opinion GiveDirectly hasn't done anything wrong.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
My children education is priority among my family needs. I believe educating them will give the a better future. I rely on casual jobs and subsistence farming to provide and meeting my family needs is challenging with this limited resources. When I received my second transfer I took KES20000 to pay my children school fees. I kept the remaining amount for my households basic items and daily use.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The happiness and gratitude of having my daughter back and settled in school is the biggest difference in my daily life. I am happy that she did not waste much of her time at home. This gave her time to concentrate on her studies and I am optimistic that her performance this term will improve.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 2 o'clock in the morning when I received some message notification on my phone. On checking to know who the sender was, I realized that it was from Give Directly notifying me that I had received some amount of money, my first transfers. I was filled with happiness at that instant as I knew that my daughter who had been sent back home for school fees arrears would surely go back to school. I then woke my children up, shared the good news with them and gave thanks to God for the blessings that had just come in. My children and I were really elated.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent part of my first transfer to buy some building materials to use in building a chicken coop. My decision to build this is because I had started rearing some chicken and since I have no other place to keep them, I used my kitchen as their shelter. This had made my kitchen have a foul smell from their droppings hence making us very uncomfortable and I could not even imagine welcoming someone inside the house let alone cooking in it. In addition to this, I used some amount to pay school fees for my daughter who had been sent back home from school because of some school fees arrears. Buying milk for household use has been my daily routine and it is costly. As a way to cut my daily expenditure, I decided to buy a heifer. I believe that in the next year, it will start reproducing and I will be able to milk to use and to sell the surplus in order to earn some income. I used the remaining amount of the transfer to buy farm inputs which majorly included bean and maize seeds and in hiring a tractor to help me till my farm in preparation to plant.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will enable me to construct a poultry house as well as add more chicken since i already have some. The money has also come timely since my daughter who completed high school has gotten an admission letter to the university yet i had no idea where to get the money to support her from. This means i will be able to pay her school fees as well as cater for the other expenses needed with ease
What is the happiest part of your day?
Morning is the happiest part of my day since this is the time i wake up early to engage in my daily activities. Waking up feeling energized makes me feel well prepared for what the day has to offer.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Being a single mother, i have to struggle alot to meet the needs of my family especially in paying school fees. I have three children one in campus, another one just completed high school and the youngest is in form three. All of them look upto me for school fees and all other basic needs, which i toil alot in my farm as well as engaging in casual labour like digging and planting crops in other people's farms in oder to raise money for sustainability.
