What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
In my old age, I rely on my elderly children to provide for me finances to venture into agriculture in my 2 acre farm. I was happy when I had planted maize in my farm and was hopeful that I would be able to get some food and also money to cater for other basic needs in the house. When floods hit our village, I unfortunately lost all maize crops. Life is currently difficult because I don't know how I will be able to be food secure in the coming months as we all lost our only source of income to the floods.
What is the happiest part of your day?
In the past six months, we have experienced floods in our area. This was a difficult moment for us because no one was available to offer help when the floods came. I was forced to hold onto the rooftop of my house so that I can be safe. Despite these trying times, I am happy that all my children are safe and healthy despite being ill due to waterborne diseases.
What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
Receiving this money is a dream come true for me. I plan on allocating KES 11000 to clear some fee arrears for my youngest son who completed his secondary education recently. This will enable him get his certificate in the coming months. I will then use the remaining amount to venture into agriculture. I plan on planting some watermelons in my 2 acre farm. I am hopeful that I will have a bounty harvest to cater for future needs of the family.
