How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life has been of a great change compared to the previous one. As a family, we had one source of income basically from my husband's casual wages which was hand to mouth income, but now I can testify that, out of my business, the family is capable of meeting it's basic needs without straining and without debts. The family is now able to have three meals in a day which never used to be reality at first.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has empowered our people by giving them equal opportunity and freedom in decision making on financial management. I have realized that, every one is capable of doing great achievements in life when they have monetary support, only that they have limited resources to turn their dreams into reality. I have witnessed people taking their children to schools, others engage themselves in building decent houses while other involve in farming and businesses. And it is so amazing. When it comes to the negativity of the organization, I have nothing to portray.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer on opening Mobile Money Transaction Business (Mpesa business). Initially, we had only one source of income in the family and that was the casual job that my husband does in Nairobi. Being a casual worker, he earns wages that could not meet our family needs demand. But nowadays, out of my Mobile Money Transaction business, we have good income for the family needs and savings for my child education.
