Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
My son came from the shop with the information that people have started receiving the transfers. I asked him to confirm for me if I have received the money too and indeed I had received mine. This news made me happy because I had no food in the house.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I spent all the money to buy food for my family during Christmas and though I haven't seen any big change, I am thankful to GD for making me enjoy my Christmas.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
These transfers came during Christmas and since 4 members of the family are among the beneficiaries we decided to contribute KES 200 for a bundle of flour that would blush us for a month. I then l channeled the rest of the money towards buying the daily needs of the family like milk, sugar, tomatoes e.t.c.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My house roof was curried away by wind the other day. I'm living in fear of being rained on because rainy season is almost here. My house walls are also very weak and at verge of collapsing. I'm planning to buy iron sheets on credit and pay in bit with the monthly transfers that I will be receiving. I'm also planning to strengthen the weak walls with cement but this will come later after I'm done with the roofing and settling the debts.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The fact that I'm 66 years old and still alive is something to be happy about. I love seeing my grandkids around because they like giving me company as I narrate sweet stories to them.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
While bringing up my kids, I used to carry heavy luggage to the market in order to sell and provide for them. This left my back and legs weak, at this age I rarely sleep at night due to back pains and I have been unable to afford health care. With this money I hope I will be able to access better medical care and ill be able to enjoy my sleep.
