How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Having no stable source of income made my daily life before the project very miserable. I could barely raise enough money for a decent meal then and had to share a small room with a couple of my friends because I could not afford to raise enough money to rent my own house. Since I became part of the project, my lifestyle has improved because I am now living in my own house which I mostly pay for using the transfers. I have also become more confident and ambitious because I know that I can achieve whatever I want through hard work and persistence. I have been working extra hard to ensure that I maintain my current lifestyle when the project is over which is why I try to save from the little I earn.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
My biggest desire was to construct a house back in my rural home as I do not have one at the moment which prevents me from frequently visiting my parents because I do not have a place to sleep when I visit. Ever since I started receiving these transfers, I have been purchasing the required construction materials which I intend to use in the project. I have not purchased all the required materials which I hope I will soon through the project hence no new plans.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
So far, I have spent only a portion of my most recent transfer on rent which I had not paid because I was not able to raise enough money from the casual jobs that I depend on. I have saved the rest of the moeny on my M-shwari account to help achieve my plans of purchasing construction materials that I intend to use in the construction of a new house back in my rural home.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Currently, my life is different from how it was in that, I have gained a new sense of life and inner peace. Even though the fire incidence drove me to a point where I was giving up, the monthly transfer has been a blessing to me. I do go for casual jobs and supplement with the transfer which has made me settled to this point.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
My new goal is to start a business. I Used to sell t-shirts buy fire destroyed all the clothes that I was yet to sell. After this incident, I had no option but to do casual jobs so as to revive my business. I loved the business since self-employment is a reliable source of income and this is why I am determined to revive it.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my transfer on purchasing two pieces of iron sheets. I have started building a house back at home but it is yet to be completed. When I was enrolled in the program, I was very happy and knew that I was going to have a house. Most of the time when I went home, I could sleep at my grandmother's house. This has always been embarrassing. I will be finish building this house probably in the month of March next year. I attribute this success to GiveDrectly since were it not for them, I do not think if I would even start this kind of project. I also bought nails for the same project and clothes for my children and I. The remaining amount was spent on food.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Currently, my life is different from how it was in that, I am able to take care of my needs and emergencies easily. Recently, I was able to buy household items and rented a house using the transfer. My house had been burnt down and everything was burnt. l have now started all over again. I thank GiveDirectly very much because if it were not for the transfer, I could probably be still living with a friend.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
My new goal is to start a business. I want to start selling clothes. The fire incidence that occurred which left my house burnt down was a big loss on my side because the clothes that I used to sell were also burnt. I want to work towards reviving the business because I know the benefits in terms of profits that I am certain of getting every day.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my transfer on purchasing household items like a mattress and bed. The remaining amount was spent on paying rent. My house was burnt down by fire and all my household items were burnt. I had to start from scratch. I have been staying with a friend for some weeks but I wanted to have my own place. I am glad that the transfer really helped me to start life over again.

Do you have any new goals that you didn't have before receiving the transfer?
My new goal now that I have started receiving the money is to build a house back at home. I am a married man and I would wish my wife to go and live at home so that she can do some farming. This will only be possible after I have been able to build a house where she will shelter in. I thank GiveDirectly for the aid they are giving me since I know that it is only through them that my plan will be fulfilled.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving payments from GiveDirectly is that I now own a second hand clothes business. Before GiveDirectly came for enrollment, I used to depend on any available casual work which at times was hard to find. I am now glad that I have a continuous source of income which has enabled me cater for my family needs without much struggle.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my most recent transfer to pay school fees for my child who had been sent back home since I had not cleared her school fees. This had troubled my heart always and I had no peace of mind since I did not want her being sent back home at the beginning of the year. I also bought her some school uniforms using the remaining amount since I had transferred her to a new school and she was still using her previous school uniforms. I knew that it would not take a long time before she could be sent back home for not having the right school uniforms.
Describe the moment when you started receiving transfers. How did you feel?
It was early in the morning as I was preparing myself for my daily work when I received a message indicating that I had received my first transfers from GiveDirectly. I was filled with happiness at that instant as I received my money when I needed it most. My landlord had threatened to close my house because I was owing him two months rent. I knew that all of my problems would be solved with the money that I had just received.
