The new goal that I didn't have before receiving cash is to raise the dowry needed to get a spouse. My wife passed on some years back and I have never been easy, especially in bringing up the kids singlehandedly. I feel it's high time to get a partner who will not only be our source of joy but also an assistant to me.

This has brought a very huge transformation into my entire village and it's evident in the modern houses that we constructed, and the new businesses that we started among others. I however do not see any negative thing that the organisation did.

I spent part of my second transfer on buying a dairy cow and a pair of oxen at a total of KES 33000. I have been yearning to have them for so many years but I could not afford to have them at my own cost because they were very expensive. I however settled for them because they have numerous benefits as compared to other domestic animals. In a few months to come, I will be getting milk which I am planning to supply to the neighbouring dairy shops and earn a living since for now I just depend on casual jobs. Therefore the cows have for sure brought a very big relief to my life and I believe I no longer strain in raising my five children. I later spent the remaining amount to buy foodstuffs for my family and other household needs.

It was around 9pm while I was asleep when I received a message in my phone. Since I was asleep I did not hear the message tone till morning when I saw the envelope like icon on the screen of the phone. Since I do not know how to read, I contacted my helper who confirmed that it was a transfer message from GiveDirectly. I felt so happy knowing that the hardship I had been passing through was going to be solved.

Initially, getting some food was a big challenge for me. I used to struggle so much to make ends meet but at some time, my efforts were futile. Upon withdrawing the money, the first thing I did was paying KES 30000.00 school fees for my secondary school children. I did this to ensure that my children are retained in school for better learning instead of being sent home for fees like before. I also did some shopping for my family for KES 10000.00 since I received the money during a drought season. Thereafter, I bought some poles and paid a contractor to construct a house for me because the one I have is collapsing. This house will complete after receiving the second transfer.
