What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the cash on starting a small scale business of a quarry. We make building blocks which we sell to our clients at a fair rate and that is how we make a living nowadays.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I think that the organization has excelled in helping the poor by alleviating from one level of life where maybe they would never get to were it not for the cash transfers. On the flipside though, I have not yet seen a very negative side of it.
How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I now have my own working place where I have freedom of operating the way I wish to without having to work as a slave or get pay cuts when one or two things are not in a good way.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in life, is suffering from typhoid for a period of three years. I was unable during that period to seek for medication since I did not have money to pay my medical bills.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day, is in the evening when I have worked and managed to fend for my children. I feel very happy whenever I see them going to bed satisfied.
What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this transfer means a big relief to me. I currently do not have a house, and I shall spend my transfer to build a descent house next to my mother. This will help me accord her the much needed social support since she is blind.
