How is your life currently different from how it was four months ago?
My life is currently less burdensome financially. We have crops in the farm which we planted using part of GiveDirectly funds. We are expecting a harvest of maize and beans in a few months hence an income for us. I am more optimistic than before because initially there was little hope if any. We did not have funds for farming - leasing space, buying seeds, fertilizer and paying labor. GiveDirectly funds enabled us to have all those and we are grateful.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
My additional goal is to do finishing for the house - to put a ceiling board and paint it to look more beautiful.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the house that we renovated using GiveDirectly funds. We feel good to see the transformation of where we live. The house had earth walls and floor, now cemented and plastered. I am happy about it because I did not think it would be possible to renovate it in such a short time period. We also built a kitchen separately so our homestead got a face-lift and we are grateful.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
I expect to have a better economic status from farming because it is what I am now depending on to get an income. In the next six months we will be having two harvests because the next crops we will plant are cabbages and potatoes (they take three months to mature). We will be giving our best in this so as to get a good income and continue having a better life onward.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my life is that I have enough food for my family.Since I bought food for my family ,my casual jobs is more rewarding as I get money and save a part of it for future use.I no longer consume all the money that I work for.In fact, receiving these transfers gave hope to my husband that we can also live a descent life.He now works harder than before and supports me in meeting daily needs unlike before when he just used to sit back hopelessly.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
I expect my life to have changed because I will be having Milk.I will also be producing enough from the farm I leased and to always continue farming. This was a door opener to a door that will never be closed again in my life.
How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is currently different because I have a piece of land that I leased.I also have a cow that gives me an income from the milk it produce. My husband's attitude towards life has greatly improved and is more enthusiastic to work for the good of our family. He used to drink all the money he got from casual jobs but has since stopped when he received this transfer. We are happier and more hopeful since he has completely gotten way from his drinking habits
Do you have any new goals that you didn't have before receiving the transfer?
My new goal is to complete making a concrete floor for in my house.I will also build a house for my children.

What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning, when I wake up healthy it brings me happiness and joy to begin a new day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship in my life was dealing with my drunk husband until 2009 when he reformed. Before then he was violent and at some point I was thinking of getting separated from him.He also used to spend all the money on alcohol and we ended up sleeping hungry. Those days were the hardest days of my life,I was at the lowest both emotionally and economically.
What are you planning to spend your transfer on?
I am planning to spend part of my transfers on building a new kitchen and the rest I will buy a dairy cow.
What is the achievement you are proudest of?
The achievement that I am proudest of is being able to start a family with my husband 10 years ago.We started out of nothing,we did not even have a house the only thing we had was 2 points of land we resorted casual labour and from the little earnings we were able to build this house and fend for our 5 children.Iam proud because of the far we have come.
