How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The new goal is to complete the construction of my house which I had started with my second transfer. I was not able to complete the transfer I intend to look for other sources to finalize the construction. In addition, my firstborn is about to join secondary and my goal is to further his studies through secondary education.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well in fulfilling their promises of sending the cash transfer to our phones. That allowed us to plan individually on how to solve our problems at the household level. I do not see anything that it does not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 7,000 to purchase a bicycle, this was to assist in fetching water for the family during the drought season. Also, it was to help for transportation to the market and within the village. Previously, I use to carry 20 litres of water jerrican on my head, walking for more than 30 kilometers to and from the water source was a very tiresome task for me. I also used KES 30,000 to construct a proper shelter for my boy child this is because he was seeking shelter from his colleagues when he was frequently mocked by his peers. The remaining amount assisted me to support the education of my 7 children who are still in primary school by clearing their term two fees.

I spent part of my first trdfer on buying some dairy cows at KES 30000, I have been dreaming tob won for yeas but i cudlt afford sicne theybwere too consrly. Also I bought building poles, few pieces of irojm setts, timber and anils. What does receiving this money mean to you?
I foresee a future where I might lack enough money to educate my seven children given that their father is old. Therefore am planning to use all the transfers from GiveDirectly to buy indeginous dairy cows. The cows will serve my household well because I'll be selling the milk produced to earn income so us to pay for my children's school fees in the future. I'm also planning to use the milk produced for domestic consumption.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening. This is the time I take a rest after a long day in the forest burning charcoal.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship in my life has been food insecurity. Sometimes we are forced to skip some meals because we have nothing to cook.
