Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my initial transfer, I can recall that I was busy with the house chores. I overheard my neighbours celebrating the receipt of their transfer, they were ululating in happiness. I remember rushing back to the house to check if I had the same message, Upon lifting my phone, that was when I realised that I had received money from GiveDirectly. It was an evening like no other, the joy and happiness were immense. I knew that with the money at hand I would be able to accomplish my goals in no time.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have been able to accomplish my dreams in a short period. Initiating a goat project is an achievement and a great milestone that I never thought that I would have accomplished in a short time due to financial constraints. Secondly, my home is now decent since I was able to renovate it. I am grateful for the support that brought so much joy and happiness in our lives and also for uplifting our lives amazingly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I was passionate about initiating a goat rearing project because I knew that it was easy to maintain and they were both diseases and drought-resistant. Though I never had enough money to start the same. Therefore, receiving money from GiveDirectly was the perfect opportunity for me to realise this goal. Thus I used 30,000 on the goat project. Secondly, I used KES 20,000 to renovate my house which was a bit old and lastly, I bought some household items. I was unable to achieve all this due to financial constraints since I depend on farming in earning a livelihood yet it's no longer productive.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will help us acquire a water tank that we have long desired to own. We experience a lot of hardship during the dry season because we do not have a reservoir to harvest and store the water during the rainy season. We are normally forced to carry water on our backs which we fetch in a far dam, approximately 2 Km away which is tiresome and stressful. The said water is not clean and contaminated with waterborne diseases. We fear contracting these diseases, it is for this reason that we intend to buy 5000 liters water tank. It will cost us KES 39000. We will use the rest of the money to expand our poultry project.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My husband was admitted at Chelimo hospital for 3 weeks after an illness. He had been diagnosed with amoebiasis and he was admitted to the hospital for a week. We were overjoyed when he was discharged after he had fully recovered and we thank God for keeping him safe.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Our last born graduated sometimes in 2017 after having bagged a bachelor's degree in Accounting. We had huge hope that he will secure employment thereafter and be able to salvage our situation in assisting us to educate his other siblings and also be able to live a better life than ours. This pains us a lot since we sacrificed a lot of resources to educate him but has never secured any employment.
