In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly is doing a very good job especially because they do not put any restraints on the money giving us the ability to use and prioritise the money on what matters to us the most since we do actually have a lot of problems and this has consequently given ius financial freedom.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
My children had actually been sent home from school about three days prior to receiving the money so I paid KES 1,000 for the one in highschool and KES 2,000 for two who were in elementary school and I was at ease because the remaining four I had already paid their fees at the time so I was so happy that none of my children were going to be sent back home meaning they could continue with their education just like the other children.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received the money at around 11 am in the morning. I was preparing lunch for my kids who were about to return home from school for the lunch break. I heard a notification on my phone upon looking at it I found out that I had received the money from GiveDirectly. I was very happy I thanked God.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The money has made a big difference in my life and that of my child. My child is now in school continuing with his education without any disruptions. I was happy about that. With my child in school, I am confident he is going to learn and have a bright future
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I received KSH 1200 from GiveDirectly. When I received the money my child had been sent home due to school fee issues and so I decide to pay the whole amount as school fees. Paying school fees was my priority because I do want my kids to learn well and get a good education so that they live a good life in the future. Without good education, it is very hard to make it in life. I want to create a platform for them in that they will be able to learn with fewer problems at the back of their mind so that they can do well.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
In table banking, I do save 100KES a week and one can take a loan three times the savings. With the transfers, I will be setting aside 2000KES every month. Once the cash accumulates to 10000KES, I will take a loan of 30000KES to finish the construction of my house. I have six children in school, two are in secondary school. The transfers shall lessen my burden of raising school fees.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Taking my favorite meal makes me happy. I struggle during the day, times skipping lunch to ensure I get the best dinner for the children and myself. Such evenings normally get me at the top of my happiness.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My husband being a casual laborer in house construction manages to raise approximately 2000KES a month. I was forced to borrow 2000KES from a relative to take my second born to secondary school. The loan gives me sleepless nights. Besides my house is stalled( half of it leaks) making it unsafe for my young children.
