How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Since I had to use most of the transfers to spend on my son's education I am hoping that when I finally have enough money I can finish up with the construction to my house. I also intend on keeping my son in school so any little money I get I will ensure to pay for his tuition.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
First and foremost I would love to extend my gratitude to the organization for the generosity it has offered me so far and I am quite happy that with the money I received my son was finally able to proceed with his education.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
After my son graduated high school a couple of years back, it was unfortunate that he could not pursue studies since we did not have money. Therefore I decided to use the money that I received this time around to pay for this his college where he was studying engineering which I paid about KES 35, 000. I then spent the rest of the money on buying twenty three pieces of iron sheets because I planned on building a bigger home for me and my husband.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was on one morning while I was from fetching some water and I heard some neighbors saying they had received their transfers. I contacted my helper for confirmation and he told me that I had received mine too. My heart was filled with joy to an extent of not going back for a second trip. I decided to take a rest meditating on how best I would utilize the money.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference that I can attest to is that, if it were not for GiveDirectly my children would not have gone for further learning. Before GiveDirectly came, they had stayed home idle for two years waiting to go to university and polytechnic but I had no means of taking them there.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Since I had 3 children who were to be in school, upon withdrawing the money, I took KES 30000.00 and paid the starting fees for my son who was joining the university, KES 10000.00 for another son who was joining a polytechnic, and KES 2000.00 for my class eight daughter. Thereafter, I opted to buy some food for KES 4000.00 and some poles for KES 4000.00 to renovate my house.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
We are a family of 5, being in a polygamous setting and my husband living away because he works as a herdsman, and earns peanuts. I work as a charcoal burner, and at the moment the business is not doing well and am left with my two children who just completed secondary school and are at home because there is no money to take them to school. They aspire to take teaching courses which they have passion, their fee will roughly cost 100,000 KSH. Upon receiving the first transfer of 55,000 KSH I plan to pay school fees for both of them, and am sure if they get employed they will support me later in life.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Being able to see my sons finish school successful makes me a proud mother I believe as a family, our future is bright.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Being unable to pay school fees for my son makes me feel very sad, am afraid they might mix with bad company at home. Lack of permanent employment or source of income so I plan to open up a small business that will support me with my basic needs.
